Pronunciation
Letter
đ (lower case, upper case Đ)
- (Sylt) A letter of the North Frisian alphabet, written in the Latin script.
Usage notes
- Sylt Frisian ⟨đ⟩ represents earlier [ð], which explains the form of the letter. However, it is not an etymological spelling for any original [ð], but is used only in those cases in which the modern pronunciation varies by subdialect between [l] and [r]. (For the shift [ð] → [l] compare the Danish pronunciation, e.g. of kød, which is quite close to a liquid.)

Pronunciation as IPA(key): /d͡ʑə/ is initial Slovene (phoneme plus a fill vowel) and the second pronunciation is probably by analogy from German d.
