Inherited from Proto-Turkic *-niŋ. Cognate with Chuvash -ӑн (-ăn), Turkish -nin, Uzbek -ning, Kazakh -дің (-dıñ).

Usage notes

1. Unlike some Turkic languages, the initial n- drops after words with consonant endings.

   ‎𐰋𐰏 (beg, “lord”) + ‎𐰤𐰭 (n²ŋ) → ‎𐰋𐰏𐰭 (begiŋ, “the lord's”)
