Sino-Korean word from 詩集, from 詩 (“poetry”) + 集 (“anthology”).
First attested in the Samgang haengsildo (三綱行實圖 / 삼강행실도), 1511, as Middle Korean 싀집 (Yale: suycip). Equivalent to 새 (sae, “new”) + 집 (jip, “home, house”). First element reinterpreted as Sino-Korean: 시(媤) (si-, “on the husband's side”).
