Etymology

Literally, “orangutan hakama”, compound of 猩々(しょうじょう) (shōjō, “orangutan”) + 袴(はかま) (hakama, “hakama- traditional Japanese trousers”). The hakama changes to bakama as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
