  1. A generic mark for footnotes and references. Equivalent to the symbols *, , §, etc., and to superscripting numbers and letters.
  2. Specifically, the asterisk *, as opposed to ⠢⠢ for the dagger , etc.

Usage notes

  • A space appears before this mark, and after anything that follows it except the number or letter of the note. For example, footnote "b" would be marked " ⠔⠔ (text)".
  • This mark was abolished in Unified English Braille.
