Etymology

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “Not given etymology by STEDT (puʼ-cwan "crabs, lobsters, shrimps"), and Luce adduces no cognates.[1] The first syllable ပု (pu.) could be from the "short, dwarfish" sense, though စွန် (cwan) as "kite (bird)" doesn't seem to make sense; how are crustaceans "little birds"? Unless crustaceans are "little food for birds", though such an interpretation doesn't seem clear.”

  • IPA(key): /bəzʊ̀ɴ/
