Usage notes

When it is solely used with a consonant, it produces /am/ without any final consonant.

Etymology 2

Borrowed from Old Khmer -am- on the basis of pairs such as ขลัง (klǎng, potent) and กำลัง (gam-lang, vigour) from the ancestors of modern Khmer ខ្លាំង (khlang) and កម្លាំង (kɑmlang).
