Etymology

    From Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰayǰʰ-, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰeyǵʰ- (to knead, shape). Cognates include Latin fingō (shape, fashion) whence English figment, figure, fiction etc., Proto-Iranian *paridayjah whence (via Ancient Greek) English paradise, and dough.
