Etymology
From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (gc /gač/, “plaster, gypsum”), ultimately from Akkadian 𒅎𒌓 (IM.BABBAR /gaṣṣu/, “gypsum”). Compare Khotanese [script needed] (gatsä, “gypsum”), Arabic جص (jaṣṣ, “plaster”), Classical Syriac ܓܨܐ (gaṣṣā, “plaster”) from the same source.
