From طَابَق (ṭābaq), ultimately from Middle Persian tʾp̄k' (tābag, “[big brick used as] frying-pan”) (or another Middle Iranian language). For the sense development compare Mingrelian ანგურა (angura, “big brick used for baking bread”), from Georgian აგური (aguri, “brick”).
