Etymology
Inherited from Old East Slavic кайданы (kajdany, “shackles”), probably mediated via some Turkic language from Arabic قَيْدَان (qaydān), the dual form of قَيْد (qayd). Compare Russian кандалы́ (kandalý) from the same source.
