Possibly a borrowing from Scythian *gamīra-, *gmīra- (“mobile unit”),[1] or from Scythian *gaya-mira- (“union of clans”).[2] Cognate with Neo-Assyrian 𒆳𒄀𒂇𒊏𒀀𒀀 (Gimirrāya). Compare Old Armenian Գամիրք (Gamirkʻ) and Biblical Hebrew גֹּמֶר (Gomer).
