Pengiran Anak Mohammad Yusof (24 June 1948 – 13 December 2004) was a Bruneian civil servant and member of the royal family, having been Queen Saleha's brother and the spouse of Princess Nor'ain in 1967. He had previously served as the Chief (Yang Di-Pertua) of Jabatan Adat Istiadat Negara, and was a member of several state councils.[1]

Biography

Pengiran Anak Mohammad Yusof is born on 24 June 1948, in Kampong Sumbiling Lama, Brunei Town.[1] He is the son of nobleman Pengiran Anak Mohamed Alam and his wife, Pengiran Anak Besar.[2] He received his early education at Istana Darul Hana Surau[3] and Gurney English School Kuala Lumpur. He would go on to further his studies at the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College and Victoria Institution.[2]

Pengiran Anak Mohammad Yusof began his career as the Deputy Controller in the Department of Immigration and Citizenship combined with the Commissioner of National Registration from 1 April 1970 to 31 August 1971, a member of Jabatan Adat Istiadat Negara from 1975 to 1981, and Chief of Jabatan Adat Istiadat Negara from 1 December 1981 until his retirement on 31 March 2000.[4][1]

Later in life, Pengiran Anak Mohammad Yusof would be appointed as a member of the Privy Council, Syariah Council, Adat Istiadat Council and Succession Council. Upon being awarded his cheteria title in 1968, he held responsible for managing and observing royal ceremonies in order to ensure its accordance to tradition and customs.[1]

On 13 December 2004, Pengiran Anak Mohammad Yusof passed away at his home in Kampong Telanai. Members of the royal family alongside Abdul Aziz Juned carried out the prayers at his home. Upon completion, his body was brought to and buried at the Kubah Makam Di Raja.[5]

His hobbies included playing badminton and association football.[2]

Pengiran Anak Mohammad Yusof married Princess Nor'ain Bolkiah on 18 August 1967. This made him the brother-in-law of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.[1] As part of the celebration, the couple were paraded around Kampong Ayer and the banks of the Brunei River, with the British High Commissioner Fernley Webber in attendance. On the 27th, the Majlis Kesyukuran ceremony was carried out with the couple receiving gifts from royal family members, at the Department of Religious Affairs's Madrasah Hall.[6]
