The USCBA was established in July 2008, with their first junior team playing in Basketball Queensland's representative competitions in 2009.[1] In 2014, the association entered both a men's and women's team into the Southern Basketball League (SBL) under the name of Sunshine Coast Rip.[1] The men's team made it through to the SBL Division 2 grand final[2] and won the championship in their first season.[3][4] Both teams continued in the SBL in 2015.[5][6]
In October 2015, the Sunshine Coast Rip were granted a license to play in the Queensland Basketball League (QBL) in 2016.[7][8][9] Both teams missed the playoffs in their first QBL season.[10][11] For the 2017 season, the club was renamed USC Rip City.[12]
For the 2020 season, USC Rip City joined the newly-established NBL1 North, which replaced the QBL.[13] In 2022, the men's team reached the NBL1 North Grand Final,[14] where they lost the best-of-three series 2–0 to the Gold Coast Rollers.[15][16][17]
In October 2023, USC Rip City withdrew from the 2024 NBL1 North season.[18][19][20]
