- 2SLGBTQI+, standing for two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and plus.[1]
- GBT or GBTQ,[2] referring to gay, bisexual, transgender, and, sometimes, queer men.[3]
- GLBT, standing for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender. It was the commonly used acronym prior to the 1980s. Due to the AIDS crisis, the L was placed first to honor the lesbians who provided care and donated blood when healthcare workers refused to help.[4][5]
- HBTQ, standing for homosexual, bisexual, transgender, and queer.[6] More common in Swedish.[7][8]
- ITNB+, standing for intersex, trans, non-binary, and gender nonconforming people.[9] More common in Portugal to address non-cisgender non-endosex issues.[10]
- LBT or LBTQ,[11][12][13] referring to lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and, sometimes, queer women.[14]
- LGB, referring to lesbian, gay, and bisexual members of the community,[15][16] recently adopted by groups opposing transgender rights[17]
- LGBPA+, with P and A standing for pansexual, panromantic, asexual, and aromantic, usually referring to cisgender people within the community.[18][19][20][21]

Acronyms for same gender attraction
- MLM, slang for men loving men. Includes gay, bisexual, and pansexual men and attraction that is either sexual or romantic. It is sometimes used by non-binary people or used to refer to attraction to men and non-binary people.[70]
- MSM, standing for men who have sex with men. This term is often used in public health discourse.[71][72]
- NBLNB, slang for non-binary loving non-binary.[70]
- SGA or SSA, same-gender attraction or same-sex attraction[73][74][75]
- SGL, standing for same-gender loving. This term is used by some in the black community to avoid identity terms considered Eurocentric.[69][5]
- WLW, slang for women loving women. Similar to MLM, it includes bisexual women, pansexual women and lesbians and can be used by or to include non-binary people. It can refer to romantic or sexual attraction.[70]
- WSW, standing for women who have sex with women.[71][76][77]
Sex and gender focused acronyms
- AFAB, standing for assigned female at birth; this refers to someone whose sex assigned at birth was female but who may or may not identify as the female gender.[78][5][79]
- AGAB/ASAB, standing for assigned gender at birth or assigned sex at birth.[80]
- AMAB, standing for assigned male at birth. Similar to AFAB, it describes some whose sex assigned at birth was male but who may or may not identify as the male gender.[78][5][79]
- DSD, an abbreviation to describe intersex variations. It can stand for either disorders of sex development or differences in sex development.[81] The former is considered pathologizing by some intersex people.[82]
- FLINTA*, a German acronym standing for frauen (women), lesben (lesbian), intersexuelle (intersex), nicht-binäre (non-binary), transgender and agender.[83] The asterisk stands other groups not represented by the other letters. The acronym refers broadly to groups other than cisgender endosex men.
- FTM or MTF, standing for female-to-male and male-to-female respectively. These terms are considered outdated. The more generally accepted term for FTM is transgender man or trans man; the more accepted term for MTF is transgender woman or trans woman.[84][85]
- FFS, standing for facial feminization surgery. It is a gender-affirming treatment using a series of plastic surgeries to make the face appear more feminine.[86]
- GAC, standing for gender-affirming care. This is a form of healthcare that supports transgender people through medical, non-medical, hormonal, surgical, social, and mental health services.[87][88][89][90]
- GAHT, standing for gender-affirming hormone therapy. This involves the use of hormones to align one's physical appearance closer to the gender they identify as.[91][88]
- GNC, standing for gender non-conforming.[92][93]
- NB, (sometimes said as enby) standing for non-binary, but can be confused for meaning non-Black[94][95]
- PGP, standing for preferred gender pronouns.[96] This acronym has been shifted away from by some who prefer to just use the word "pronouns" due to the implication of one's pronouns being just a preference.[96]
- PTP, standing for person with a transgender parent.[5]
- T4T, standing for trans for trans. It is used by transgender people desiring romantic, sexual, intimate or emotional partnership with other transgender people.[97][98]
- TGD, standing for transgender and gender diverse.[99][100][101]
- TGE, standing for transgender and gender expansive[102][103]
- TGI, standing for transgender, gender diverse, and intersex.[104] The term is also inclusive of people who identify as transsexual.[105]
- TGNC, standing for trans and gender nonconforming.[5]
- VSC, standing for variations in sex characteristics. An alternative acronym to describe intersex variations.[81]
- XtX, XtF, XtM,[106] FtX, MtX,[107] FtF, or MtM,[108] alternative terms that are used in place of FtM or MtF[109]
