The film had its world premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on 18 May 2024.
World leaders meet at the G7 but get lost in the woods whilst trying to compose a joint statement on an unspecified global crisis. Beset by thick fog and menaced by undead bog bodies and a giant brain, they navigate the tortured passions between them.
A German-Canadian production from Square Peg. Producers on the film are Liz Jarvis for Buffalo Gal Pictures, Philipp Kreuzer for Maze Pictures, and Lars Knudsen for Square Peg.[2]
Cate Blanchett joined the cast in October 2023.[3] In January 2024, news broke that the cast also included Alicia Vikander and Charles Dance.[4][1]
Principal photography took place in Hungary in October 2023.[5] Filming locations also included Winnipeg in Canada.[6]
The film was selected to be screened out of competition at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it had its world premiere on 18 May 2024.[7]
On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 81% based on 26 reviews, with an average rating of 6.0/10.[8] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 71 out of 100, based on 13 critics, indicating "generally favorable" reviews.[9]
