Premier University (Bengali: প্রিমিয়ার ইউনিভার্সিটি), also known as PU and PUC, is a renowned private university in Chattogram, Bangladesh. It was established in 2002 by Chattogram City Corporation.[1] Currently this institution is being managed under the authority of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) [5]

Perspective
The ex-mayor of Chittagong City Corporation, ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, conceived the idea of establishing a center of excellence for higher education and learning in Chittagong and initiated a needs assessment in 1998. A project proposal for Premier University was submitted to the Ministry of Education of Bangladesh in May 2001. The proposal was approved by the government of Bangladesh under the Private University Act (1992), and the University Grants Commission (UGC) approved the curriculum of Premier University.[6]
The university came into being on 5 December 2001 and launched its academic programs in January 2002. During 2022, the university arranged its third convocation.[7]
In 2021 Premier University has obtained permanent campus establishment and operations approval from the Ministry of Education. Among the private universities in Chattogram, Premier University is the first to receive this accreditation.[8] In 2012, this university had previously obtained permanent campus approval from the UGC.
During the first years, the university offered a four-year bachelor's and two-year master's degrees in only a few subjects.[9]
Currently, the university consists of 6 Faculties and 13 Departments.
In 6 December 2024, it's vice chancellor Dr. Anupam Sen has resigned amidst student protest. It's pro vice chancellor and treasurer has also resigned due to the student protest. [10] Students had been protesting for the past two days before their resignation, demanding the Vice-Chancellor's resignation. On 4 December 2024, Wednesday, they locked down three campuses, effectively enforcing a complete shutdown.[11] The officials who have resigned amidst student protest include Vice Chancellor Anupam Sen, Pro-Vice Chancellor Kazi Shamim Sultana, Treasurer Taufique Sayeed, Proctor Ahmed Rajib Chowdhury and Student Welfare and Human Resource Director and Ex Registrar Khurshidur Rahman [12]

American Corner Chattogram
American Corner Chattogram, established in 2003, is the first American Corner in Bangladesh, located in the vibrant port city of Chattogram. Recently, it has reopened in a new venue in partnership with Premier University in 2023. This educational and cultural hub serves as a platform for the embassy to conduct outreach programs, as well as customized conferences, sessions, and workshops.
