Operation Oganj '92

Operation Oganj '92 was a military action conducted on October 7, 1992, by the 505th Bužim Brigade of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ARBiH), then known as the 105th Bužim-Krajina Brigade. The operation aimed to push back the 1st Novigrad Light Brigade of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) positioned on the outskirts of Bužim and retake control of the occupied elevation of Ćorkovača.^[1]

Operation

In this operation, the 505th Bužim Brigade recaptured Ćorkovača, regaining control of part of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina's (RBiH) border. The operation was carried out by ČSN HAMZA and a company of the second battalion of the 105th Buzim Brigade with the APAČE detachment from the 111th Bosanska Krupa Brigade.^[2] This battle established the strategic acumen of the young general Izet Nanić, and marked the first offensive action of the 505th Bužim Brigade.^[3]

Aftermath

Approximately 20 km² of territory was recaptured in the Ćorkovača area. A significant amount of weapons and ammunition was seized, and several dozen VRS soldiers were killed.^[4] This victory significantly improved conditions for planning further actions to retake RBiH territory to the north and east, making frontal assaults less necessary.^[5] Control of the RBiH border was regained from Ćulumak to Ćorkovača, covering a 10 km stretch that remained under RBiH control throughout the war.^[2]
