María Angels Ramón-Llin

María Angels Ramón-Llin i Martínez (born 15 June 1963 in Valencia, Spain) is a Spanish politician affiliated with the People's Party (PP). Born and raised in Valencia, Spain, Ramón-Llin pursued higher education in law, earning her degree before embarking on a political career. In addition to her legal background, she also holds a diploma in music and is a qualified teacher of the Valencian language.

Political Career

Early Political Involvement (1982–1999)

Ramón-Llin began her political career in 1982 when she joined Unió Valenciana (UV),^[1] a right-wing regionalist party advocating for the interests of the Valencian Community. Demonstrating strong leadership skills early on, she was elected as the President of UV’s youth wing, a position she held from 1983 to 1991.

Her influence within the party continued to grow, and in 1987, she was elected as a deputy to the Corts Valencianes, the Valencian regional parliament. She remained in office for nearly two decades, serving until 2004. During her tenure, she was entrusted with key ministerial roles within the Valencian regional government.

Ministerial Positions in Valencia (1995–2003)

In 1995, Ramón-Llin was appointed as the Minister for Environment and Agriculture in the Valencian regional administration, a position she held until 1997. Her tenure focused on environmental conservation, sustainable agricultural practices, and rural development initiatives within the region.^[2]

Following a cabinet reshuffle, she was named the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food in 1999, overseeing the region's agricultural policies until 2003. In this role, she worked on promoting local agricultural industries, ensuring food security, and managing policies related to fisheries.

Transition to the People's Party (PP) and National Politics (1999–2008)

On 11 January 1999, Ramón-Llin officially left Unió Valenciana and joined the People’s Party (PP), aligning herself with Spain’s major center-right political force. In 2004, she transitioned from regional to national politics when she was elected to the Spanish Congress of Deputies, representing the province of Valencia under the PP banner. During her time in the national legislature, she contributed to policymaking on agriculture, environmental affairs, and regional development.

Despite her success, Ramón-Llin decided not to run for re-election in the 2008 general elections. However, she remained an active member of the PP, particularly within the Provincial Committee of the People’s Party of Valencia, where she continued to play a strategic role in regional politics.
