Considered a very technical right-back, Balu spent most of his career at Cruzeiro, where he played from 1986 to 1991, made 288 appearances and won the state championships in 1987 and 1990.[1] He was also elected Silver Ball in 1989 and called up to the Brazilian team a few times in 1990 and 1991, playing a single match.[2] He ended his career at Portuguesa Santista, a team he also debuted in, and lives in the city of Santos to this day.[3][4]
