As of the most recently completed 2023–24 basketball season, 362 men's college basketball programs competed in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I.[1] This number includes programs transitioning from a lower NCAA division, most from Division II and one from Division III. For the 2024–25 season, four schools will become full Division I members, having completed transitions from Division II, while two schools will start transitions from Division II.
Each program employs a head coach. As of the 2024–25 season, the longest-tenured head coach is expected to be Greg Kampe, who has been head coach at Oakland since 1984. However, Kampe does not have the longest tenure at the Division I level because Oakland played in NCAA Division II before the 1997–98 season. The longest tenure at the D-I level is expected to be that of Tom Izzo of Michigan State, who has coached the Spartans since 1995–96.
Conference affiliations reflect those of the upcoming 2024–25 college basketball season.
