Kavya Kalanithi Maran is an Indian businesswoman, co-owner and head of[2] Sunrisers Hyderabad in Indian Premier League (IPL)[3] and Sunrisers Eastern Cape in SA20 League, and Executive Director of Sun TV Network Limited. She is the daughter of Kalanithi Maran, the chairman and founder of the Sun Group.[4][5][6]

Early life and education
Kavya graduated with a B.Com from Stella Maris College, Chennai and did her MBA from the Stern School of Business,[7] New York University in New York.
Career
Post her higher education, she returned to Chennai and joined the Sun Group, the conglomerate founded by her father, Kalanithi Maran, which is one of the largest media networks in Asia.[8][9] She is the Executive Director of Sun TV Network Limited. She is the Head of the Group’s growing presence in professional sports, which includes three cricket teams. SunRisers Hyderabad, in the Indian Premier League, won the championship in 2016 and was runners-up in 2018 and 2024. The team has qualified for the IPL playoffs 7 times in 12 seasons. SunRisers Eastern Cape, in the South Africa T20 League, won the championship in the inaugural season of the league in 2023 and in 2024.[10] The team was runners-up in 2025, being one of the few teams in franchise cricket history to play 3 consecutive finals. Sun Group has recently acquired a cricket team in UK’s The Hundred League.[11]

Awards
In January, 2024, Kavya was awarded the Face and Force Behind Sunrisers Hyderabad[12]' at the Devi Awards,[13] in recognition of her contributions to the franchise.
Kavya is the youngest businesswoman to be featured on India Today’s prestigious ‘100 Women Achievers of India’ List of 2023.[14]
In 2025, she was featured on The Hollywood Reporter India’s “Women in Entertainment Power List”.[15]
That same year, she was ranked #46 on Fortune India’s “Most Powerful Women in Business” list.[16]
