History
Prior to October 2018, both Jabal Ferwa and Jabal Soudah were the two highpoint candidates of Saudi Arabia, with the latter widely believed to have been the country highpoint,[3] but an October 2018 climbing expedition, using survey grade Trimble Geo 7X GPS unit on both Jabal Ferwa and Jabal Sawda determined with 98% confidence that Jabal Ferwa is Saudi Arabia's highest point, being higher than Jabal Sawda by 2 to 4 metres.[3]
However, the Saudi authorities still recognize officially Jabal Soudah as the highest point of Saudi Arabia.
