History

The field was opened on March 17, 1967, as a new home for Club Deportivo Veracruz to play on. It was originally named "Estadio Veracruzano". In 2019, the team ceased to exist. After the team ceased, the stadium went into abandonment until for a brief period it was used by Atlético Veracruz which played in the Liga Balompie, but early in 2021 the team moved into another stadium.

In February 2023 the government of Veracruz announced plans to remodel the stadium with the objective of modernizing it. In 2024 the remodeling began; as of November 2024 the grass has been planted.
