Perspective

Burnett began his crew chiefing career in 2016, replacing Brian Burns as the crew chief for JTG Daugherty Racing's No. 47 car in the NASCAR Cup Series, driven by A. J. Allmendinger. He had previously been the engineer for Chip Ganassi Racing's No. 42 Cup Series car driven by Kyle Larson.[1] He was released from the team partway through the 2017 season. Later in the year, he would join Richard Childress Racing as the crew chief for their No. 2 car in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, replacing Justin Alexander, who was promoted to crew chief RCR's No. 3 car in the Cup Series, replacing Slugger Labbe. The car was driven by multiple drivers in 2017, Matt Tifft full-time in 2018, and Tyler Reddick full-time in 2019. Burnett and Reddick won the 2019 Xfinity Series championship together. In 2020, Reddick moved up to the Cup Series full-time, driving RCR's No. 8 car, and Burnett moved up with him, replacing Luke Lambert as the crew chief of that car. Burnett has remained in that position ever since and will continue as crew chief of the No. 8 car when it is driven by Kyle Busch starting in 2023 (with Reddick moving to a new third RCR Cup Series car before leaving for 23XI Racing in 2024).[2]

Burnett and Kyle Busch started the 2023 season strong, coming close to winning the Clash and the Daytona 500 and then winning the second race of the year at Fontana as well as the races at Talladega in April and Gateway.
