History

Thumb
Clayton Hotel, Limerick

Dalata Hotel Group PLC was founded in July 2007 by Pat McCann, former chief executive of the Jurys Doyle Hotel Group.[2] The company made its initial public offering in 2014.[3]

A significant single expansion for the group was the purchase of nine of the ten hotels of the Moran Bewleys Hotel Group in 2014 which were subsequently rebranded to the Maldron or Clayton brands.[4] The Clayton brand name also comes from an originally independent hotel acquired in Galway in 2014.[5] The Clayton Hotel Cork City in Cork, formerly a Clarion Hotel, was acquired by the group in 2016.[6]

Properties

As of May 2024, Dalata operates 49 hotels under the brands Maldron Hotels (22) and Clayton Hotels (27) as well as four independently named properties in three countries.[1] Notable properties include the Clayton Hotel, Limerick, one of the tallest hotels in Ireland,[7] and the Clayton Burlington Hotel, Dublin.[8]

Controversies

On 27 August 2024, Dalata Hotel Group reportedly cancelled existing reservations at its Maldron Hotel in Manchester, blaming technical issues.[9] This followed an announcement by Oasis of new dates in the city.[10][failed verification] According to some customers, patrons were reputedly asked to accept their cancellation and offered new bookings at up to three times the original cost.[11][better source needed]
