Bechlín lies approximately 21 kilometres (13 mi) south-east of Litoměřice, 35 km (22 mi) south-east of Ústí nad Labem, and 37 km (23 mi) north of Prague.
Name is not derived from the Middle High German term for a stream, but a possessive suffix from the personal name Bechla in the significant Bechlův dvůr.
The village of Předonín is an administrative part of Bechlín.
