Good Article Nominations Request For Comment
A 'Request For Comment' for Good Article Nominations is currently being held. We are asking that you please take five to ten minutes to review all seven proposals that will affect Good Article Nominations if approved. Full details of each proposal can be found here. Please comment on each proposal (or as many as you can) here.
At this time, Proposal 1, 3, and 5 have received full (or close to) support. If you have questions of anything general (not related to one specif proposal), please leave a message under the General discussion thread. Please note that Proposal 2 has been withdrawn and no further comments are needed. Also, please disregard Proposal 9 as it was never an actual proposal. |
List of Chinese Inventions, Crossbow
Hi!
I wasn't trying to remove the info about Ancient Greece. The section began by mentioning Greek crossbows, and ended that way too; I only deleted the first two sentences. I'm totally cool with the whole contemporary-civilization-comparison thing, but surely that shouldn't be the subject of the first two sentences, and surely it doesn't need to be mentioned twice?
Mespotamia
According to the Mesopotamia#Etymology section referenced by [6]:
A further distinction is usually made between Upper or Northern Mesopotamia and Lower or Southern Mesopotamia.
I did add a page number for the 1st reference,"Who Were The Babylonians?". Bill T. Arnold. 2004. pp. 2.
Quote: as well as for the greater region of southern Mesopotamia in what is today southern Iraq, Kuwait and parts of western Iran.
I couldn't find a page number for the 2nd reference, however scroll down the link: ''Lower Mesopotamia consists of modern-day southern Iraq and portions of Kuwait and southwestern Iran near the city of Ahvaz....
It currently says Lower Mesopotamia is the area from Baghdad to the Persian Gulf.[6] The area from Baghdad to the Persian Gulf is a bit ambiguous. Agrso (talk) 03:59, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
- Hi Agrso,
- Thanks for your message. I'll look into those sources and get back to you within a day and we can go from there. My main objection is that while there are very small parts of Kuwait that had traces of Meso culture, academically I have never seen Kuwait included when talking about the ancient civilization.

GAN December 2013 Backlog Drive
Hello! A GAN Backlog Drive will begin in less than 4 days! In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. In the upcoming drive, another goal will be added - raising as much money as we can for the Wikimedia Foundation. How will this work? Well, its pretty simple. Any user interested in donating can submit a pledge at the Backlog Drive page (linked above). The pledge should mention the amount of money the user is willing to donate per review. For example, if a user pledges 5 cents per review and 100 nominations are reviewed, the total donation amount is $5.00. At the time this message was sent out, two users have submitted pledges for a total of 8 cents per review. All pledges, no matter how much money, are greatly appreciated. Also, in no way is this saying you must make a pledge. |

As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Mediation is a voluntary process which resolves a dispute over article content by facilitation, consensus-building, and compromise among the involved editors. After reviewing the request page, the formal mediation policy, and the guide to formal mediation, please indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you agree to participate. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 12 January 2014. This really is the classical "those editors defending the mainstream are out to get me" but with a twist - an attempt to get them (or rather us) banned or blocked to leave the way clear for a couple of indefatigable Black Egypt supporters. I wonder why the account change. The identity is pretty obvious. Not illegal of course as they are consecutive - unless there's a blocked or banned editor earlier. Anyway, nice clear succinct post. And the picture is pretty clear now. An editor with a battlefield mentality who wants everyone they disagree with on an article blocked or banned? And who has even before this brought up the ArbCom stick? I can't quite get my head around anyone who reads the probation notice about sanctions for disruptive editing and then does this. Dougweller (talk) 21:50, 6 January 2014 (UTC)

E1b1aSeems to be popping up all over. Just removed it from Egyptians and Archaeogenetics of the Near East - besides the other problems, such specific points don't belong in these articles - obvious POV pushing. Dougweller (talk) 13:20, 7 January 2014 (UTC)

There will be several changes compared to previous drives:
Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish. More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the the drive page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page. The logic and sense of the para I moved was history - therefore moved. Left the first sentences as duplication - as they made sense in both locations, and I do not wish at this time to edit the wording. I'll leave that for someone else. I saw the formatting issue that you did - and fixed it. Should be good to go now. Last comment - if you think the intro was already appropriate - why was a request left to shorten it and move material into the body? WikiProject Good articles Future GAN Backlog DriveHello everyone! Hope you've all been having a great summer! TheQ Editor recently proposed the idea of having another Backlog Drive in either September/October or November/December of this year. For those of you who have participated in the past two drives you know I was the one who organized them, however, come September, this will be my most important year in school so I will not be able to coordinate this drive (if it happens). TheQ Editor has volunteered to be a coordinator for the drive. If any of you would like to co-coordinator, please notify TheQ Editor on his talk page. If you would be interested in participating in a Backlog Drive sometime before the end of this year, please notify TheQ Editor. Also, make sure to specify what month(s) work best for you. At the time this message was sent out, the backlog was at 520 nominations. Since May, the backlog has been steadily increasing and we are currently near an all time high. Even though the backlog will not disappear over one drive, this drive can lead to several others which will (hopefully) lead to the day where there is no longer a backlog. As always, the more participants, the better, and everyone is encouraged to participate! Sent by Dom497--MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 15:52, 16 August 2014 (UTC) GA CupHello everyone! We hope you have all been having a great summer! As we all know, the recent GAN Backlog Drives have not had any big impact on the backlog. Because of that, me (Dom497), Figureskatingfan, and TheQ Editor have worked on an idea that could possibly finally put a dent into the massive backlog. Now, I will admit, the idea isn't entirely ours as we have took the general idea of the WikiCup and brought it over to WikiProject Good Articles. But anyways, here's what we have in mind: For all of you that do not know what the WikiCup is, it is an annual competition between several editors to see who can get the most Good Articles, Featured Article's, Did You Know's, etc. Based of this, we propose to you the GA Cup. This competition will only focus on reviewing Good articles. For more info on the proposal, click here. As a FYI, the proposal page is not what the final product will look like (if you do go ahead with this idea). It will look very similar to WikiCup's page(s). The discussion for the proposal will take place here. Please let us know if you are interested, have any concerns, things to consider, etc. --Dom497, Figureskatingfan, and TheQ Editor MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:28, 31 August 2014 (UTC) WikiProject Good Articles - GA Cup
Harvard Extension SchoolHey old chum. I hope you are well. There is some vandalism on the HES page from someone who is likely affiliated with Harvard and feels threatened by the presence of the Extension School. And you know he has a right to feel that way because a whopping 152 Extension students earned Bachleor's degrees in 2014, compared to app. 1600 from the College! Anyway, this user vandalized the lede, and when I reverted the changes, he/she requested a page lock. The lede now contains factually incorrect information regarding minimum grade requirements. Admissions information is clearly stated in the body of the article and it is my opinion that it doesn't belong in the lede anyway. I have cited on the talk page why this information is incorrect, but I'm getting nowhere. Do you have any suggestions? As a fellow crimsonian, would you please advise as to how to deal with a particular user deleting swaths of information that I have submitted? I have not used any government sources, in fact, most of my posts could be construed as negative towards the government.
