Hi Ahkitj, welcome to Wikipedia! It's good to see another kiwi round the place - us Southern Hemisphere types have to stick together. Be warned, it is highly addictive. There are lots of resources around by way of help and guideline pages, but it can take a while before you find the one you want. Wikipedia:Naming conventions and Wikipedia:Manual of Style are handy, then there is Wikipedia:Help and you can always ask at the Village pump. Don't be afraid of making the odd mistake, there are any number of others eagerly waiting for a chance to correct it! Need to know anything, just ask.

Hey-- Thanks for your comment re East Timor. I perhaps could explain my reasons a little better: (1) The section in question was a short blurb (there is a separate, extensive Economy of East Timor article) and therefore should give only a brief summary of economics, not weird political commentary. (2) The "puppet state" claim I find absurd with respect to Texas, but at any rate it's certainly a POV. (3) If someone wanted to offer this claim (danger of being a puppet state, which I also find silly), it would require a lengthy discussion, which (by (1)) would be inappropriate here. Also, the proposed conspiracy theory is also out of place, also by dint of (1). VeryVerily 04:58, 5 Sep 2003 (UTC)
