The Template Barnstar | ||
I hereby award you the Template Barnstar, in recognition of all your hard work on succession boxes, and more specifically the templates of the s-start series. May you keep up the good work. Waltham, The Duke of 23:43, 1 January 2008 (UTC) |
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Fpcf.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Hi. I've been trying to use the s-ref
template in the Ian Macfadyen article. I cannot get it to work for a reference, only for a note. Any ideas? Greenshed (talk) 17:10, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
Long time no see, Darius. Unfortunately, participation in SBS has been too low for the project to function properly. I have thus been forced to declare its disbandment here. However, there seems to be some resistance by the members... Right now, I am under siege in my castle. Could you please talk some sense into them?
PS: Please send my carrier pigeon back; it's the only one I have. Waltham, The Duke of 13:56, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Hi Darius, thank you for your message and liberality. I am wondering if there is a program on wiki where you list your ancestors linearly (even several generation) and from that it generates a family tree. Let me know if this question is not clear.
Another question. The family history and family tree categories are under the strict rule of "notability" or not?
Thank you much, Adrian Comollo (talk) 15:24, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
As the template's creator, could you address my comments at Template talk:Antique Kings of Italy? Thanks. Srnec (talk) 05:03, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
...although, to be honest, I have no idea. The link is Wikipedia:VPT#Infobox titles centered with the .5Bhide.5D/.5Bshow.5D button?; these things disappear fast in the Village Pump, so look up the last archive if you are too late. Waltham, The Duke of 02:41, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Please do not tag in-use templates for speedy deletion. It makes it very confusing to figure out where the tags are coming from as the speedy deletion tags are included onto pages that transclude the template. If you need to tag something in template space for speedy deletion other than with {{db-t3}} (which is a special tag), you should always use noinclude tags around it. WP:CSD#Templates under T3 gives the conditions under which unused templates may be deleted. Please see {{db-t3}} for usage instructions ... the short version of it is that if you use {{db-t3|~~~~~|TemplateName}} and if nobody has used the template in that time, it will be deleted. This special tag includes the name of the template so if somehow the template were to be used subsequent to tagging, it makes it easy to figure out where the speedy deletion tag is coming from. --B (talk) 18:47, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I was hoping to insert these into infoboxes once the nomenclature was firmed up. Deciding what "namesake" actually means to everyone so it wasn't ambiguous and would need further changing was my hope. Forlorn, since no one has come up with any other suggestions. I think the idea was kind of cute, but no, not really a succession per se. Hate to delete it but no one has picked up on it either. Oh, well. Death to the unused! A tag has been placed on Template:S-fic, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page and leave a note on [[Talk:Template:S-fic|the article's talk page]] explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Bazj (talk) 13:48, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

I am extending this invitation to you because you are listed as the sole member of WikiProject Genealogy and as a Wikipedian genealogist. WikiProject Genealogy seems to have ground to a halt, and I'm hoping to either "reboot" it or, if interest is lacking, eliminate it. If you are so inclined, please visit "This project's purpose" topic in WikiProject Genealogy Talk at your earliest convenience and respond to my comment. (You might have to scroll down a bit; my comment is mostly boldfaced.) If you are not willing or able to participate, please notify me of such in email, and I won't disturb you further about this matter. Thank you. -JohnAlbertRigali (talk) 08:12, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
First off, I apologize for the spam. You are receiving this message because you have indicated that you are in Southern California or interested in Southern California topics (either via category or WikiProject, or I happen to know personally).
I would like to invite you to the Los Angeles edition of Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art, a photography scavenger hunt to be held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM. All photos are intended for use in Wikipedia articles or on Wikimedia Commons. There will be a prize available for the person who gets the most photos on the list.
If you don't like art, why not come just to meet your fellow Wikipedians. Apparently, we haven't had a meetup in this area since June 2006!
If you are interested in attending, please add your name to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art#Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Please make a note if you are traveling to the area (train or plane) and need transportation, which can probably be arranged via carpool, but we need time to coordinate. Lodging is as of right now out of scope, but we could discuss that if enough people are interested.
Thank you and I hope to see you there! howcheng {chat} 00:39, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

The article California Marriage Protection Act (2010) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. THF (talk) 14:19, 14 December 2009 (UTC)
I have nominated California Marriage Protection Act (2010), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/California Marriage Protection Act (2010). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.
Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. THF (talk) 12:57, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
In your contribution on Leir you state that there is no etymological connection between Leir and Llyr. Do you have a source for this, or can you explain your reasoning? My question is not aggressive. Hello Whaleyland, I was reading the 'Isabella I of Castile' page, saw your name in the edit history and couldn't help but notice that there was not one single citation on the entire page... On Saturday January 15, 2011, Wikipedia will turn 10 years and people all over the globe will be celebrating Wikipedia on that day. No event is currently planned for Orange County Wikipedians, so I am leaving a message with some of the currently involved editors listed in "Wikipedians in Orange County, California" & "Wikipedians in Southern California" to see if we might want to meet on that day, lunch, dinner, group photo or other ideas welcomed? I will start a "Turning Ten" discussion thread on my Talk page to see if any interest can be planned for and determined. Hello !! :Whaleyland !!, I am writing to you as I found your name on Wikipedia:WikiProject Genealogy and I need someone else's opinion on Genealogy template.
The template is Template:Tagore family. Now as per my opinion the spouses of family descendents should not be part of template, as they are not direct genealogical descendants. Please go thru history to get aware of dispute. The creator of template User:AkhilKumarPal is not ready to accept this argument and claims ownership and has reverted me twice.
I do not want to revert him again and as per 3RR rule and I need to be sure what I am doing is right or wrong. Please let me know, if spouses can be included in template or not, as per your opinion?

Thanks for uploading File:Georgia-Arms.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.
If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Thank you for the recent edit to subject article. However, since your edit consisted entirely of deletion of allegedly erroneous content for which a reference citation had been provided, I have temporarily restored the referenced wharf removal date. Should you wish to challenge the removal date, I request you substitute an alternative date for wharf removal with an appropriate reference citation for the new date and appropriate talk page discussion about why that reference is more reliable than the presently cited reference. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Louis III of France, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page St Denis. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. A tag has been placed on User:KuatofKDY/Random test, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Cahk (talk) 11:28, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

I am not insisting on this anymore, I am going through many disruptive, aggressive edits from dodgy usernames and IPs I know after having an long-running editor blocked for personal attacks and harassment. Of course that has nothing to do with you, but you could have engaged in dispute resolution, since the previous 100-edits editor just quit discussion and showed no engagement. Now on what WP basis other than personal do you dismiss the use of Jewish? It is about a certain social group of people with a common identity, not religion. It is in the reference, and provides useful, descriptive information on the character. I understand also that you reject the use of the dualistic Christian that and Muslim that in history matters. Thank you Iñaki LL (talk) 10:58, 4 January 2017 (UTC)
Heads up, I threw this up on AfD instead of accepting the PROD. Hello, Whaleyland. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

(To discontinue receiving Project Genealogy newsletters, please see below) A demo wiki is up and running! Dear members of WikiProject Genealogy, this will be the last newsletter for 2017, but maybe the most important one! You can already now try out the demo for a genealogy wiki at https://tools.wmflabs.org/genealogy/wiki/Main_Page and try out the functions. You will find parts of the 18th Pharao dynasty and other records submitted by the 7 first users, and it would be great if you would add some records. And with those great news we want to wish you a creative New Year 2018!

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:17, 14 March 2018 (UTC)

An article you recently created, Frances, Countess of Périgord, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. You are more than welcome to continue making quality contributions to Wikipedia. If your account is more than four days old and you have made at least 10 edits you can create articles yourself without posting a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for Creation if you prefer.
Thank you for helping improve Wikipedia!

The article Estrildis has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Obscure unhistorical character.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. PatGallacher (talk) 20:05, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

See Talk:John Stewart, 3rd Lord of Aubigny for comments about renumbering the Lords of Aubigny. Perhaps it should be done, but references are needed.--Dthomsen8 (talk) 07:22, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.
Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
Be in touch with Schwede66 if this event interests you and you'd like to discuss logistics. Schwede66 09:14, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
