Hi, Mono. User:Chzz brought to my attention that you may have some lingering uncertainty about how non-free content on Wikipedia is handled, and my own evaluation suggests that there is some clean-up work that you need to do to address some outstanding copyright concerns.
For instance, on February 20th, you created the article History of Google Docs. The content you used to create it seems to have come from this Wikipedia article: . While many contributors do not realize this, content on Wikipedia is not public domain, but only licensed liberally for reuse. One of the conditions of that reuse is that you must give credit. See Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia for more. Please provide proper credit for History of Google Docs. You'll also need to provide credit for Chinatown, because with this edit you copied content from Chinatown, Brooklyn and/or Chinatowns in Canada and the United States. I'm not sure where you got Google buzz, but it's obvious you got it from somewhere else on Wikipedia by the "Cite error" at your foundation. You need to credit that, too. Even though this content was all copied from within Wikipedia, it's still a copyright problem if the source isn't given. Also, if you have copied other content within Wikipedia--even if it was a long time ago--please make sure you go back and attribute it.
Meanwhile, this edit is a little alarming, too. :) Translated from what? If you've translated it from another Wikipedia, that needs crediting (directions for that still under Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia). If you've translated it from somewhere else, where?
Based on this, I wanted also to expound on this passage from our copyright policy:
Note that copyright law governs the creative expression of ideas, not the ideas or information themselves. Therefore, it is legal to read an encyclopedia article or other work, reformulate the concepts in your own words, and submit it to Wikipedia, so long as you do not follow the source too closely. (See our Copyright FAQ for more on how much reformulation may be necessary as well as the distinction between summary and abridgment.) However, it would still be unethical (but not illegal) to do so without citing the original as a reference.
Reformulating the concept in your own words requires not only using different language, but also revising the structure of your original. This is an element of copyright protection that is not as commonly encountered: creativity not only exists in language, but also in the structure and organization of ideas of a source. If you change the language but not the structure, you run the risk of creating a "derivative work". (This is one of the reasons why you can't translate something from one language into another without permission, even though you may change every single word.) Rather than switching out a few words in a sentence, we really have to rewrite them completely (which is often quite a pain in the neck, unfortunately :/).
To avoid this, we recommend writing from scratch when you begin rather than copying elements from other sources and then trying to alter them as you go. It is very hard when you do it that way to escape copyright issues. The essay Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing contains some suggestions for rewriting that may help avoid these problems. The article Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/2009-04-13/Dispatches, while about plagiarism rather than copyright concerns, also contains some suggestions for reusing material from sources that may be helpful, beginning under "Avoiding plagiarism".
Please let me know if you have any questions about this or if you need more information about how to correct unattributed Wikipedia copying. I'll be watching your talk page for a time. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:30, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Mono, I'm probably going to be offline a lot during October. Could you monitor the talkpage, create a progress graph and send out reports to start, at the midpoint and end of the drive? Thanks a lot! WikiCopterRadioChecklistFormerly AirplanePro 20:52, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated! Several of our top editors were called away to real life concerns during the month (be careful out there, people!). This meant that once again, we did not meet all our lofty targets, but we did come close.
Barnstars
A huge "thank you" to all editors who helped clear the backlog and to others who helped out behind-the-scenes. See you at the next drive, and until then, please continue to help us work through the backlog. Happy editing! Coordinator: ɳorɑfʈ Talk! Co-coordinators: Diannaa (Talk) and S Masters (talk). You requested User:Mono/Banner be deleted, which I did, however it is in use on this talk page. I'd be happy to help fix the formatting and such, but if you're keen to redo it yourself, I don't want to interfere. Thanks, --TeaDrinker (talk) 23:46, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Heh, thanks. Next time, could you at least tell me? I remember adding a rationale (speedy per WP:G7 per author request), but it somehow didn't register. Anyways, thanks for catching that. Airplaneman ✈ 01:55, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
You have me worried. Tony (talk) 03:44, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
On 4 October 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Robert Twycross, which you recently nominated. If you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Hi Mono,
I have removed the BLPPROD you placed on Kevin Haslam (American football) because the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:Proposed_deletion_of_biographies_of_living_people#Are_external_links_.22sources.22 indicates that an external link verifying some of the information in the article is enough to make an article ineligible for BLPPROD. In the case of Kevin Haslam, the link to his Jacksonville Jaguars page does verify some of the information in the article and is sufficient to make the article ineligible for deletion by BLPPROD. Hey. Can you give me a good thing to research? It's not homework, it's just that I'm bored. Ian 06:55, 5 October 2010 (UTC) Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ian.bjorn (talk • contribs)

Hi there. You indicated that you wanted your userpage to be redesigned. I would be happy to do so, but I charge a fee for my services:

If you would like me to design a userpage for you, please do one of the above, and leave a message on my talkpage with the relevant diffs (or a link to your patrol log), as well as any notes about colours or whatnot.→ ROUX ₪ 03:04, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Many non-admins do it, and it is not specifically forbidden, but that is beside the point. I like your system! Anyway, I'll get the diffs to you. THENEWMONO 03:27, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
BTW, not working for me in Google Chrome on Vector. Looks all jumbled, and the talk page text floats off my screen to the left. If you want, I can take some screenshots. From what I can tell though, nice design! Airplaneman ✈ 23:53, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Hey, Mono! I just got unblocked! Let's do this thing! Ian (talk) 22:02, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Ok, Mono. I should sign my posts with 4 tildes (~ ~ ~ ~) 23:48, 7 October 2010 (UTC)). I have to write down an edit summary so that people know why I edited or added that post. Also, I should do on Wiki what I would do in real life, like asking for help or not vandalizing. I should be civil so I don't get blocked(again), such as discussing whether or not I should delete another editor's additions, and also I should assume that everyone is trying to help Wiki unless there is evidence that they are vandalizing. I should be bold because we're human and we make mistakes. I should not do any original research, which means I should be using sourced facts. Finally, I should make sure that my articles merit Wiki's standards.
So how did I do? Ian (talk) 23:48, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Oh. Any way, I can do my Warriors thing as well as my second assignment! Sweet! Ian (talk) 02:31, 8 October 2010 (UTC) (There's a cleanup part on it)
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!
The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 November at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 November at 23:59 (UTC). The goal for this drive is to reduce the backlog by 10% (approximately 500 articles). We hope to focus our efforts on the oldest three months (January, February, and March 2009) and the newest three months (September, October, and November 2010) of articles in the queue. Sign-up has already begun at the November drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page. Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style. Awards and barnstars A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants, some of which are exclusive to GOCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page. Thank you; we look forward to meeting you on the drive! |

Hi Mono, I noticed on several of the articles you are editing you are leaving two of the same type tag. Example . I assume it might be by accident so I removed one of the two tags. Best, --Alpha Quadrant talk 04:34, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
The links in your "My userspace" sidebar don't work, and it appears under my toolbox links. Would you please place it where the links can actually be clicked on? Thanks. ~NerdyScienceDude 01:48, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
