Hey MichaelMaggs, I just wanted to let you know that I undid your edit to Chess, and to let you know why, (I did enlarge the image I put back in, which seemed to be your main concern with it). While the image you inserted is certainly a nice one, I felt the other was better for two reasons: first, it shows a game clock, an important part of the game that goes unillustrated elsewhere in the article (aside from one picture where there's one in the background, and isn't the focal point at all). Second, I feel that the image you inserted just too closely resembled the image directly underneath, so the previous one is better for aesthetic reasons. Though, again, the image you inserted is quite nice, and could definitely be used somewhere else in the article. Anyway, no offense was meant by the revert. Cheers, faithless (speak) 11:15, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Hello - I don't know quite where to put this, so feel free to just delete it right away, but your image "Lichen-covered tree, Tresco" is really really beautiful. Just thought I would tell you so! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.135.175.111 (talk) 08:43, 5 February 2008 (UTC) Thanks! --MichaelMaggs (talk) 20:42, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
Hi Michael,
Just to let you know that the Featured Picture Image:Bouncing ball strobe edit.jpg is due to make an appearance as Picture of the Day on February 22, 2008. If you get a chance, you can check and improve the caption at Template:POTD/2008-02-22. Note that I had to edit down your proposed caption for length (my rule is to not have the text extend beyond the upper and lower bounds of the image), but I hope it's still clear enough for the layperson. howcheng {chat} 17:55, 14 February 2008 (UTC)

Uh, I think there's been a mistake somewhere. I did not do that edit on that Hurricane page I assure you. I seem to have an identical IP to someone else. Is there some way to get around that? --142.177.125.16 (talk) 22:38, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

I saw your name at Wikipedia:Wikipedians/Photographers. I revised the pages at Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in England. Please consider adding your name to the top of the page at Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in London and to any of the other subpages for Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in England. Thanks. GregManninLB (talk) 01:48, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
You received this message because your were on the old list of WikiProject Physics participants.
On 2008-06-25, the WikiProject Physics participant list was rewritten from scratch as a way to remove all inactive participants, and to facilitate the coordination of WikiProject Physics efforts. The list now contains more information, is easier to browse, is visually more appealing, and will be maintained up to date.
If you still are an active participant of WikiProject Physics, please add yourself to the current list of WikiProject Physics participants. Headbomb {ταλκ – WP Physics: PotW} 14:57, 25 June 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for bringing this evolution of policy to our attention. I think this is an important and relevant piece of information of use to the diverse wikipedia editor demographic. Regards, User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 01:09, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
Image:Darnley stage 3.jpg has been named a Featured Picture. As an admin in Commons can you move it to a new but meaningful name like "Elizabeth I Darnley Portrait c 1575.jpg"? Thanks so much. - PKM (talk) 22:11, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for letting me know about that. Don't really mind if it's replaced, though. Cheers, · AndonicO Engage. 03:20, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
Hello! Thanks for showing an interest in Wikimedia UK v2.0. Formation of the company is currently underway under the official name "Wiki UK Limited", and we are hoping to start accepting membership in the near future. We have been drawing up a set of membership guidelines, determining what membership levels we'll have (we plan on starting off with just standard Membership, formerly known as Guarantor Membership, with supporting membership / friends scheme coming later), who can apply for membership (everyone), what information we'll collect on the application form, why applications may be rejected, and data retention. Your input on all of this would be appreciated. We're especially after the community's thoughts on what the membership fee should be. Please leave a message on the talk page with your thoughts.
Also, we're currently setting up a monthly newsletter to keep everyone informed about the to-be-Chapter's progress. If you would like to receive this newsletter, please put your username down on this page.
Thanks again. Mike Peel (talk) 19:54, 8 November 2008 (UTC) (Membership Secretary, Wikimedia UK [Proposed])
Hi. I think the best thing for me to ask is : What is "reasonable enquiry"? And how can I make it?
After my discussion with User:Elcobbola I thought "reasonable enquiry" could be a (snail)-mail letter, and that lack of response meant the image can be used. So a letter is what I am planning to send. The C.C. to the UKPIO is to make sure I have proof of "reasonable enquiry". Your message makes it sound like I (absolutely) need the information (which might not exist), and not just to make "reasonable enquiry".
On a side-not all collectors' societies Internet sites with those cards (I had found two, I could find the links I think) do not give the author, and only give John Player & Sons. Pro bug catcher (talk • contribs). 23:01, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
Hello, MichaelMaggs. Thank you for pointing out your copyright concerns with Image:Billybunter.jpg. I'm dropping you a line just to let you know that the tag that you placed on the image, {{copyvio}}, is specifically used for text that violates copyright. For images that are clear copyright violations, you can follow the procedure for speedy deletion. For images that are suspected to be copyright violations, we have a review board for possibly unfree images. For images used under suspect non-free content criteria, we have non-free content review. Other image copyright concerns are handled in various ways (see Wikipedia:Guide to image deletion for specifics.) I have corrected the tag on this image so that it can be handled in the proper venue, but I wanted to let you know for future use in case you should encounter another image that raises concerns. Thanks again for pointing out the potential problem. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 21:32, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
Hello,
It gives me great pleasure to announce that Wiki UK Limited is now inviting membership applications! You can download the application form in PDF format from meta:Image:Wiki_UK_Ltd_membership_application_form.pdf
Information is given on the form about membership fees (£12/year standard, £6 for concessions); these need to be paid by cheque initially, although we hope to accept other forms of payment in the future. Applications should be submitted to me at the address given on the form. If you have any queries about the application process, please let me know.
We will formally start accepting members once we have a bank account, as we cannot process membership fees until that time. We will be submitting our application for a bank account in the very near future, and we hope to have this set up by the end of December at the latest.
Thank you for your support so far; I look forward to receiving your membership application.
