Guideline and policy news

• Following a successful proposal to create it, a new user right called "edit filter helper" is now assignable and revocable by administrators. The right allows non-administrators to view the details of private edit filters, but not to edit them.
• Following a discussion about mass-application of ECP and how the need for logging and other details of an evolving consensus may have been missed by some administrators, a rough guide to extended confirmed protection has been written. This information page describes how the extended-confirmed aspects of the protection policy are currently being applied by administrators.

Technical news

• You can now search for IP ranges at Special:Contributions. Some log pages and Special:DeletedContributions are not yet supported. Wildcards (e.g. 192.168.0.*) are also not supported, but the popular contribsrange gadget will continue to work.

Arbitration

• Community consultation on the 2017 candidates for CheckUser and Oversight has concluded. The Arbitration Committee will appoint successful candidates by October 11.
• A request for comment is open regarding the structure, rules, and procedures of the December 2017 Arbitration Committee election, and how to resolve any issues not covered by existing rules.

Recent changes

• You can now use preload features in the visual editor. This means you can create links to create new pages and some text will already be in the edit window when someone clicks on it.

Changes later this week

• If you have turned on "Automatically enable most beta features" you will now get the 2017 wikitext editor. Before this you had to turn it on manually even though it is a beta feature.
• Special:Block and Special:Unblock will get the OOUI look.
• The jQuery library will be upgraded to version 3 on all Wiktionary wikis from 2 October. It will be on all non-Wikipedia wikis from 4 October. It will be on all wikis from 5 October.
• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 3 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 4 October. It will be on all wikis from 5 October (calendar).

Future changes

• A new feature called Reading Lists are coming to the Wikipedia mobile apps. First it will be in the Android version. Reading Lists are a private user preference where you can see lists of articles on multiple devices. You can give feedback on this feature.
• The search function has used fallback languages for language analysis. This means a language could be analysed with the grammar of a completely unrelated language to find related words. This will be removed from most wikis the week starting with 9 October. You can read more and give feedback.

Student Agencies, Inc. (SAI) is the oldest independent student-run company in the United States, founded in 1894.^[1]SAI is the second largest employer of Cornell University students, after the university itself. ^[2] SAI provides a wide range of services to the greater Tompkins County area, including summer storage for college students, campus marketing solutions, and moving services. SAI is headquartered in Ithaca, New York.

History

Student Agencies (SAI) was founded in 1894, and is the oldest student run organization in the nation. This company began when undergraduate Seth Higby founded a laundry business in order to support his education^[1]. He ran a successful business, and then sold it when he graduated. This process continued until 1910, when the decision was made to expand the company by incorporating other businesses.^[3] Today, SAI boasts seven businesses and is the second largest employer of students in the Ithaca area, only second to Cornell University.

Current Agencies

Big Red Shipping and Storage provides storage, shipping, packing services to Cornell University and Ithaca College students. Big Red Shipping and Storage is an authorized shipping center for FedEx and Cornell University's exclusive on-campus provider of storage and shipping^[4].

Campus Promotions provides marketing solutions and distribution services that target Cornell University and Ithaca College students for local and national organizations. Campus Promotions releases two print publications annually, the Ithaca Map and the Ithaca Gorge Dining Guide.

Collegetown Student Services offers charter busing for all Cornell undergrad breaks, passport and ID photos, dry cleaning, FedEx shipping, faxing and photocopying, and ISIC (International Student ID Cards). It is the only SAI company that is not student-run.

Hired Hands Moving Company is a moving company serving the Ithaca and Tompkins County area. They perform moves across the state of New York, as well as moves to and from Ithaca and New York City. Hired Hands Moving Company is a preferred vendor for Cornell inter-departmental moves.

Student Agencies Real Estate owns prime real estate in Collegetown. Each year, they rent out their 17 apartments to university students. In addition to these properties, this business also manages the office buildings and shops that stretch from 409 to 415 College Ave.

Take Note (est. 1985) is a supplemental lecture note service that provides notes for Cornell's most popular classes. Take Note hires notetakers to take notes for the use of other students so they can further their understanding of the material covered in lectures.

The Cornellian Yearbook is the official Cornell University yearbook that is produced by a group of undergraduates that are a part of Student Agencies. The book covers a wide range of topics, from senior portraits to local businesses and University Organizations. The team includes over twenty students, an editor, a business manager, and a marketing manager.

Recent changes

• The number of active users listed by {{NUMBEROFACTIVEUSERS}} and on Special:Statistics will now only include Wikidata edits as activity on Wikidata and not on other wikis too.
• Previously you could create wiki links starting with two colons. Now you need to use one colon. [[::File:X.jpg]] now has to be [[:File:X.jpg]]. There is now a new Linter category. You can see a list on Special:Linterrors/multi-colon-escape. The Linter extension helps you find technical errors in articles. You can read more about using Linter.

Problems

• You will not be able to edit or upload files to Commons for around 30 minutes on 11 October. This will start at 06:00 UTC. This is because of work to let Commons show 3D models.

Changes later this week

• The font in the edit window is monospace by default. Today you can change preferences to another font family or use "the browser default" instead of monospace. Switching to the browser default has only changed the font on Macs. The option to use browser default will be removed this week.
• If you want to print a page or make a PDF of a page you can do so in the side menu. The way the pages look when you do this will change. You can read more on mediawiki.org.
• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 10 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 11 October. It will be on all wikis from 12 October (calendar).

A few days ago, you posted the image for Hurricane Nate to the main page without first requesting commons protection, near as I can tell: . Near as I can tell, nothing bad happened this time, but in general this opens up the main page to image vandalism. I'll be swapping the image out as soon as the replacement is protected at commons. Thanks for helping out at ITN, and please keep doing so, but in the future, please follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Main Page/Commons media protection before posting any image to the main page. This event is the concluding "upload party" to the Wikipedia @ Open House New York Weekend photo scavenger hunt, and an accompanying Wikimedia Commons tutorial and multimedia hackathon, Learn how to work with your photos to illustrate New York City articles! Note that this is part of the larger Open House New York Weekend activities on Saturday and Sunday, when sites normally closed to the public are open for public visits and photography. If you can, bring your camera/photos to the event, and a laptop if you'd like to engage in adding photos to articles. But this is not necessary. You are invited to join the Wikimedia NYC community for our monthly "WikiWednesday" evening salon (7-9pm) and knowledge-sharing workshop at Babycastles gallery by 14th Street / Union Square in Manhattan. We will include a look at the organization and planning for our chapter, and expanding volunteer roles for both regular Wikipedia editors and new participants. We will also follow up on plans for recent and upcoming edit-a-thons, museum and library projects, education initiatives, and other outreach activities. We welcome the participation of our friends from the Free Culture movement and from all educational and cultural institutions interested in developing free knowledge projects. Recent changes

• When you edit a template with the visual editor it follows the template's format configuration on how to save it. You can now change the format in more powerful ways if your wiki wants it.
• The TwoColConflict extension is a new way to solve edit conflicts. It makes it easier to copy and paste the relevant text to the text field. It has been a beta feature for the last five months. You can now try out the new interface on a page where you will actually get simulated edit conflicts. You can give feedback to the developers.

Problems

• There is a problem with recent changes pages and your watchlist that show a large number of pages. Until it is fixed, Wikidata edits will not be shown on recent changes or in your watchlist on Commons or Russian Wikipedia. If necessary, Wikidata edits will be removed from all wikis.
• Notifications are not working for some actions. For example some users don't get a notification when they are mentioned. The developers are working on fixing this.
• Users on some wikis could not change their preferences. This has now been fixed.

Changes later this week

• Editors and readers who still use Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP will not be able to use Wikipedia from 17 October. Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP can't connect securely to the wikis. When we allow them to do so it means that we get less security for everyone else. If you use Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP you can install Firefox 52 ESR instead. Around 0.1% of the traffic to the Wikimedia wikis comes from Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP.
• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 17 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 18 October. It will be on all wikis from 19 October (calendar).

• You can use ccnorm_contains_any when you create an abuse filter. This can be used to look for multiple words or phrases within a string. It will find words where some characters have been replaced. You can read more in the documentation.

• When you search in some languages the search function could use specific other languages if the first language didn't work. This is called a fallback language. This didn't work properly and created bad searches. The search index is being fixed to work better.
• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 24 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 25 October. It will be on all wikis from 26 October (calendar).

Deletion of Student Agencies, Inc. page

I'm not sure as to why this page was removed. Student Agencies, Inc. was founded in 1894 and is profoundly one of the more well-known organizations on Cornell University campus.

Harvard's Student Agencies organization is based off of the Cornell model.
