Hi Kate. You probably haven't the faintest idea of who I am, but I have run across your page once or twice over the last week, and I have to say I am very impressed. Your work on the Help Desk and your other gnomish edits are most valuable, and lend itself to adminship. Have you considered it? I think you'd be a good candidate. Just a note from a fan. :) \ Backslash Forwardslash / {talk} 12:09, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- Seconded; I remember coming across you recently (was it on your WikiBirthday?). As for your question about a gap in editing... I have seen that mentioned in RfAs as well, but I think most people don't believe it's a valid reason to oppose—very frequent gaps (such as leaving for a month at a time, several times a year) would be a problem, as would a significant decrease in editing not before the RfA, but one or two isolated gaps here and there is understandable. rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 18:06, 9 July 2009 (UTC)
- I'm not too concerned about the gap - we all have a life outside of Wikipedia and there is more than enough experience both after and before the break. I'm happy to nominate you if you are willing to go through a week of torture. ;) \ Backslash Forwardslash / {talk} 00:09, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- Absolutely, I'm creating the page now. Give me an hour or so to right the nomination statement. \ Backslash Forwardslash / {talk} 10:39, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- The page has been created here Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Kateshortforbob. Apologies for the delay, my internet wasn't lending itself to performance. ;) Feel free to accept the nomination and answer the questions at your own pace, and let me know when you want the RfA transcluded. (Or transclude it yourself if you feel you are ready!) Best of luck. \ Backslash Forwardslash / {talk} 12:32, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
- No problem. It doesn't really matter who transcludes it, but I have done it now. You might want to watch the RfA for the next few hours, to answer any questions. Again - best of luck! You'll do fine. :D \ Backslash Forwardslash / {talk} 14:48, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for contributing this! Great image! Shoemaker's Holiday (talk) 20:06, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
I will happily be !voting support in a moment here, but first wanted to personally thank you for the detailed answers to my questions. I like to see the ability to reason through difficult questions, and you have certainly passed. Your RfA seems very likely to pass at this time, so let me go ahead and say congratulations. :)
I did want to point out one tiny detail though: an article shouldn't have an expand and stub tag at the same time, as a stub tag is an implicit call for expansion. I only recently learned this myself. --ThaddeusB (talk) 23:00, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
- In return, I'd like to thank you for asking some interesting questions! It was a particularly useful experience to examine one of the notability guidelines in detail, and something I think I learnt from. Thanks also for pointing out the stub/expand issue; I'll bear it in mind for the future (whichever way the RFA goes :-) ) --Kateshortforbob 10:47, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Hey Kate. Well, what a week it has been :). Barring any sort of catastrophic erosion of support, I'd say it's fairly certain you're RfA will be closed as successful. Well Done! I look forward to working with you in the future. All the best, \ Backslash Forwardslash / {talk} 13:17, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- It certainly wasn't as
utterly terrifying formidable as I was worried it would be! Thank you for having enough confidence in me to be my nominator - I hope that I won't disappoint those who participated in my RFA. --Kateshortforbob 16:22, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
Now it's time to check out New Admin School and then get to work. Plastikspork (talk) 15:29, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, Plastikspork. Barring unforeseen circumstances, I shall get stuck into WP:NAS this weekend, and begin to explore the tools in a suitably sloth-like manner! --Kateshortforbob 16:35, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- Congrats! For the record, I was in music theory class with Navah, but I never had any sort of crush on her. It was just a generic "oh my god that's itzhak's daughter!!!!111!!!eleventy!" thing. :-) For some reason (problem saw a ref to daddy somewhere), I thought of her the other night, and when I saw she didn't have an article, I went hunting to see if I could source one. :-) I've come up with a few semi-interesting articles that way -- I heard about Mellie Dunham on Maine Public Radio shortly before I created that one, for example. See you around the wiki! --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 16:25, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
You might find the {{Admin dashboard}} useful: I have a script in my SarekOfVulcan/monobook.js that adds a link to it next to "my contributions". I also like using User:Splarka/sysopdectector.js to automatically show userrights on the User: pages. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 16:31, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, SarekOfVulcan, those tools do look very handy! Some of the (few) articles I've started happened in a similar way: I visited it or saw it on the news. (I'm happy that some poor soul isn't pining away for Navah Perlman, though :-) )--Kateshortforbob 16:35, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
Dear Kateshortforbob/Archives2009,
I have closed your recent RfA as successful per the consensus of the community. Congratulations, you are now a sysop! Please make sure you're aware of the Administrators' how-to guide and are aware of the items on the Administrators' reading list. Finally, please don't hesitate in contacting me if you need anything. Best of luck in your new position! —Anonymous DissidentTalk 15:31, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- Congrats! Just keep in mind that you'll always protect the wrong version, and that from now on, every mistake constitutes admin abuse. Good luck. :) –Juliancolton | Talk 16:59, 17 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks, all. I'll do my best not to break anything and roll with the (presumably inevitable!) punches. x( --Kateshortforbob 21:35, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Kateshortoforbob. Thanks for your question. Feel free to do what you think is the best choice. In Italian are used both names. Ciao. --Paul0559 (talk) 12:30, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
- OK. It's OK for me. And CONGRATULATIONS for your approval to be an Admin!! Regards. --Paul0559 (talk) 14:11, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Congratulations. Here are what pass for words of wisdom from the puppy: |
- Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
- Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
- Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
- Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
- Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
- and finally, Remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able.

- 18 years with the canine equivalent of a Muttley x Jaws, the cats are something of a relief. I'm pretty sure at least one of them's trying to kill me, but everybody thinks that about their cat...don't they? --Kateshortforbob 17:39, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- I can't think of any other explanation for a cat walking right in front of your feet while you are walking down stairs. Plastikspork (talk) 17:54, 23 July 2009 (UTC)
- Mine are trying to kill me, but since I think they know my Wikipedia username, I cannot say I blame them. fortunately, their method consists primarily of lying on my face and purring loudly in the morning, which I can easily circumvent with my superhero-like skills of sitting and gasping for breath while wiping the fur out of my mouth.
