Hi Ivo, glad to see you back in whatever role you are comfortable with. If you are still interested in the Black Haw map, see Timeline of Jane Austen for a map I did recently. I still like the red X icons for the battles, but wonder if black dots for cities, red dots for forts, and green dots for Native villages might not work better than the icons. You had a watchlist that big? I'm not mentioning any names, but IMO based on some RfCs I'm familiar with four-figure watchlists are a major recipe for problems (I only have 125+ or so, and some of them are rarely, if ever, edited by anyone). Chopping it down to manageable size is going to be the best thing you've done for yourself.

Well, a friend and me might be going to see that boulder where the Banditti of the Prairie were hung. He happened to run into the guy at a bar one night, and asked for permission to go out there. Thank you! That's the first barnstar I've received. I create stubs like these all the time; check out the Nicrophorini, Acanthomorpha, Alepisauriformes, Aspidorhynchiformes, Anotopteridae pages and their daughter articles...I wrote stubs for all of those taxons and most of their listed daughter articles. Unfortunately, I don't always have time or information to give each article more than a sentence or two-- you're looking at one of my best, and I wish I could make them all this long! However, information on many of these is very hard to come by, so I am forced to leave many articles with nothing more than a taxobox and a sentence.

I'll see what I can do about your weevil. I'll put that at the top of my to-do-list for next time I'm online (no time at the moment).

Hmm. It's a bit under an hour outside of Little Rock, and I totaled my car last year . . . but, it sounds like it could be a nice little road trip getaway (not that I consider Pine Bluff to be exactly . . . scenic) for a friend and myself. I could try and talk my way into getting down there and I'd be glad to photograph it if this is possible :) I'm all for anything local (to me) on WP. Heh, it seems we have one pretty similar hobby. But I still can't implement it as I would like to. I am planning to make such a journeyes in Europe (where I am) in near future...for example Le Corbusier, Mies van der Rohe from the modern architecture. But also medieval and ancient castles and fortresses (which are in US actually not :) ). In Wisconsin I was to Johnson Wax Headquarters, but it was closed for the public. There are tours once a week (I think on friday, but I am not sure). So I took some photos of the exterior, but it was raining... It would be really good job to make some nice pictures of the building and its interior... LYKANTROP 17:53, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

This is really funny, cause about 20km from where I live is the Villa Tugendhat. I've also seen the skyscrapers by Mies in Chicago. It was a pretty crazy travel - from Chicago with hired car to some Wisconsin places and then to Pennsylvania - Fallingwater, but not Kentuck Knob :( - and then NY. And some places on the way of course. I really will go to US for some longer time to see all the incredible buildings...places...nature... I also really recommend to visit Europe. But I still can't really imagine how it is to live in US, cause it is really very different to Europe. I hope I'll check it out for some time... LYKANTROP 21:04, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure. In my readings on the history of Davenport, Iowa, it mentions both LeClaire, and Blackhawk several times being together. While I can't confirm or deny that he translated it, it wouldn't at all surprise me if he did. Hi Ivo, let me say again that I am glad to see you back here. Thanks too for your work at Peer Review. Here's the tentative list of settlements and Native villages I had - the dots could be wikilinked just like the parks map dots are. There are 21 settlements and forts, though only 18 seem unique (Blue Mounds and Kellogg's Grove are also battles, Fort Crawford seems to be the same as Prairie du Chien village) plus 11 Native American villages, plus the 15 battles, skirmishes and massacres which are already on the map. I am honestly not sure what happens if a dot and a label overlap, so my thought would be to keep the forts etc to the bare minimum. I also note that only 3 native villages have articles (Fox is a link to the animals) and only 11 forts have articles (not counting Kelloggs Grove, already a battle). One village (Saukenuk) and one fort (Dearborn) are already on the map, so that would be 9 more dots if we just went with what already has articles.

I don't want the map to be so busy as to be illegible, so I think we should keep all the battles and only add major forts and villages. What do you think? Ruhrfisch _><>°^° 14:25, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

They are all in the battle articles - one problem with the labels is what should I label Wisconsin? Probably Michigan Territory with (Wisconsin) in parentheses below. I haven't had any experience, positive or negative, participating on any wikipedia task force mobiliized to do anything. It feels like WP:NRHP currently has a good quorum to discuss and handle a broad range of things; i don't like the idea of splitting that if it would hurt it. But, on the other hand, if a task force would somehow involve or energize a new group of people somehow then that would be great.

Thinking about it, I wonder if an NHL-specific task force would have been useful, but perhaps is not now needed as much. I don't know what you have watched, but I have felt free to pose NHL-related proposals in NRHP (a proposal about Stub/Start/B-class ratings for NHL articles, which mostly got shot down), and to develop the NHL article-development status table on main page of WP:NRHP. And there has been useful discussion of special needs for NHL sites in terms of NRHP infobox, and so on. There are only about 200 NHL articles yet to create (out of about 2440) by the way.

I wonder more about what would serve to help articles get developed further, and to get to GA and FA rating. The whole wp:NRHP is relatively unproductive on that end. Certainly the NHL articles are good candidates to work on, as they are arguably relatively important and the NRHP docs are routinely available for them.

Another priority, a possible task force, would be to focus on all of the higher NRHP designations: the NRHPs that are also NMONs, NMEMs, NHSs, etc. (i think about half of the 391 areas listed in List of areas in the United States National Park System). Articles for all of these were created, mostly by WP:PAREAS, but they need to be cleaned up and Protected areas mentions and Protected areas infoboxes should be removed from many of them that do not meet environmental protected areas definitions. This need seems to be accepted over at WP:PAREAS now, but there is no momentum, no one joining up to work on the task. It is isn't a fun task, over there, to correct previous work done. The task needs to be adopted over at WP:NRHP as a positive task of developing our most salient NRHPs. Perhaps a combined task force to develop our most salient NRHPs, including the NPS areas and the NHLs? Perhaps a collaboration on bringing one article at a time up to GA or FA? As for the combination of the neighborhood and district: as the article grows it can be separated with a "main article:" thing in the neighborhood page. Try and not sweat it, Ivo. I'm kind of a closet fan of WP:FUCK. Sure, too many people here are retards who's "contributions" actually harm the encyclopedia. (I do not lump Bedford in with these people, he just got caught pushing a POV which is quite unsettling, but I feel the body of his contributions is at least significant and adds to the encyclopedia. I still wish rather than start ignoring the situation that he would have acknowledged things, but my ideal outcome and what usually happens are almost always different. RfC is the next step, but hopefully things will mellow out.) I understand that tons of people on here don't deserve the civility that so many patient people try and give them--in fact, they really need to be told to fuck off and have their ass beat for being such an oxygen debt to the planet. However, of course we can't be that way to them.

Also, I don't think of you as "blow-your-top-and-take-a-break Ivo" or whatever. I read your RfA and oh eff double-u, you lost your cool once. Whoopie, you were even the one that brought it to their attention! Hope you don't mind my attempt to straddle a fence or two: I commented at Bedford's talk page that i do value his contributions, as I do yours, and that i personally don't see a huge problem with usage of an informal name for the American Civil War sometimes. It does also seem to be unfair to have any really old stuff brought up and used against you, but I didn't observe that happening other than in Bedford's being defensive. I have not gone and looked up RFAs for anyone, and don't intend to. But also it seemed to me that the accumulation of comments on Bedford's page was amounting to an attack that would cause me to be a bit defensive, too. So I hope this is not such a big deal. Anyhow, I'd rather chat about other stuff. Do you have further thoughts about a task force? Thank you for you work as a peer review volunteer. Since March, there has been a concerted effort to make sure all peer review requests get some response. Requests that have gone three days or longer without a substantial response are listed at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog. I have three requests to help this continue.

1) If you are asked to do a peer review, please ask the person who made the request to also do a review, preferably of a request that has not yet had feedback. This is fairly simple, but helps. For example when I review requests on the backlog list, I close with Hope this helps. If my comments are useful, please consider peer reviewing an article, especially one at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog (which is how I found this article). Yours, ...

2) While there are several people who help with the backlog, lately I have been doing up to 3 or 4 peer reviews a day and can not keep this up much longer. We need help. Since there are now well over 100 names on the PR volunteers page, if each volunteer reviewed just one PR request without a response from the list each month, it would easily take care of the "no response" backlog. To help spread out the load, I suggest those willing pick a day of the month and do a review that day (for example, my first edit was on the 8th, so I could pick the 8th). Please pick a peer review request with no responses yet, if possible off the backlog list. If you want, leave a note on my talk page as to which day you picked and I will remind you each month.

3) I have made some proposals to add some limits to peer review requests at Wikipedia_talk:Peer_review#Proposed_limits. The idea is to prevent any one user from overly burdening the process. These seem fairly reasonable (one PR request per editor per day, only four total PR requests per editor at a time, PR requests with cleanup banners can be delisted (like GAN quick fail), and wait two weeks to relist a PR request after it is archived), but have gotten no feedback in one week. If you have any thoughts on these, please weigh in.

Do you have any good books and/or other reference materials about round barns? I have a couple on the National Register in Minnesota that I should start articles on. I just went out today and got pictures of some places in Anoka County, Minnesota, including the Sparre Barn in the little hamlet of Nowthen (part of Burns Township), but I don't have anything more than a one-sentence description of the barn in a book with a list of all Minnesota's NRHP properties. I also need to do an article on the Dammon Round Barn south of Red Wing, Minnesota, though there's a little more research material on that. It's now part of a bed & breakfast, and the current owners offer it as a site for a wedding ceremony or reception. (Presumably, they haven't had animals on there in a while.)

If you have any research material that could help out, I could get a start on the article(s) and have you add stuff. (Actually, I should probably just go ahead and create stubs for some of the many properties I've photographed but haven't written about. The images are of the spider on the move (more exciting than her crouched on the side of the building, and you can see just how massive she is) - any chance I could bother someone to upload them and add them to the page? I particularly like because you get a sense of its scale and how it moves, and because of the colours and you can see the puppeteers well. I will be glad to take a look at them though it may take several days - my experience is that FAC is becoming very rigorous (which is a good thing). Image checks are mostly licenses, if it is Fair Use is there a valid justification and does the fair use meet WP:NFCC. Refs are things like do the links work for web refs, are things formatted consistently (I have been chided about not using n-dashes properly in page number ranges in refs more than once) and most of all are the refs cited reliable sources. Not really fact checking per se, although sometimes you will even see that for internet refs (especially if there are problems elsewhere). I guess I just got a bit het up as the IP seemed to be shifting the goalposts in his/her objections, and then slapping me with a warning for using 'bloody' which is not even mildly offensive where I come from, and which wasn't even aimed at him/her, seemed the last straw. I still maintain that it is justified to use the quote (though doubtless the IP would remove the 'mad, bad and dangerous to know' quote about Lord Byron as it is just one person's opinion, after all), but will try to get enough information to start a page on Monsieur F. Hi, I am currently engaged in a heated editing dispute in the article 2008, which lists notable events that took place in the year 2008. Knowing that you have been a significant contributor to the article Northern Illinois University shooting, perhaps you could provide an alternate opinion. Even though it wasn't the first or deadliest school shooting, I still believe it was a very notable event that affected the nation and world in many ways in the year 2008 (gun politics, higher education, mental health, journalism ethics, video game politics, emergency preparedness, etc.). I even backed it up with three international sources (from Australia and the U.K.), which I felt demonstrated the event's global importance. Unfortunately, people disagreed with that. Mind you, the event had been listed in that article all year, and only did it become a problem when I tried to add an image on the article recently. I stopped trying to put the image on there, but then they outright deleted the text entry about the event, which I thought was very uncalled for, and utterly ridiculous, considering it was perhaps one of the biggest media events of the year. It was in the Bad Axe massacre article- I changed the wording from the township of Roxbury to the town of Roxbury- town are the definition use in Wisconsin not township as in Michigan, Illinois, etc. Looking at the history of the Bad Axe massacre, there was no change in the outcome. I did google Roxbury, Wisconsin and came across an article a John T. Clark wrote about the town of Roxbury. The article was written in 1877. I hope this helps. I'm humbly asking for your considered opinion with my peer review request for the Lakeside Apartments District, Oakland, California page. I've listed this article for peer review because, at present the City of Oakland's Planning Commission and City Council is revising zoning and height regulations for new land development (i.e. skyscrapers) in the neighborhood. In Canada there isn't a separate legal category of historic districts, and least not at the national level. Some neighbourhoods are included among the National Historic Sites of Canada. However, the word "district" is infrequently applied and carries no particular protection against rezoning or redevelopment, including demolition. The "dirty work" of preserving and defending historic buildings and districts in Canada is left to the provinces and municipalities. Perhaps we need an article explaining that?

In the UK I do not believe they designate historic "districts" at all, but I am not sure. I think they only do it on a building-by-building basis. (But they have 500,000 protected buildings!!)

I keep meaning to tell you - I saw a copy of "The Black Hawk War of 1832 (Campaigns and Commanders)" by Patrick J. Jung and it looks like it would be a good source for the war article and the major battles (I looked at the Bad Axe section). It did not have much on the minor skirmishes. I think I saw you chime in at WP:CITY. The debate has moved to WP:WPBIO. I think I just figured out what one problem is with my templates. I have proposed moving them from City X pages to Mayor of City X pages. I think this would make it more like the other templates that no one has a problem with. See discussion and comment. As far as your suggestion goes. There are several ideas people have. I mentioned the rise of our bicameral national legislature as an outgrowth of the debate about equal number vs. equal representation. This seems to be a similar debate. I mentioned I think cities could logically be grouped in three ways within a state: Population cutoff, top X, and county seats. All have advantages and disadvantages. I do not want to use any method in one state that I can not use in all others. Thus going with a top X would require a national source. I still think all three methods have their advantages and disadvantages. In some states the 10th largest municipality won't a place that is notable. This June, Art created "unwritten rules", and since then people have been acting as if they are the official rules without any community consensus and acceptance. They have been used to attack various pages that have a lot of work. This is also done under a double standard. Such problems involve, from my experience, creating a page, putting about 20k worth of new information, then importing about 6k worth of information from another page in order to fill in a game in the background. This was criticized as not being a 5x expansion (but overrided). Another time involved my having expanded a page from 6k to 40k, but someone tried to attack it because I had block quotes from the author explaining key aspects of the text, and they thought that it didn't contain enough new information (but overrided). Recently, I had a similar problem with people saying that quoted information doesn't count as prose and this time it didn't get overrided. Why? Because over the past few weeks, many of the regulars who did override these dramatic changes in DYK were chased off or discouraged. Thats why this ruling needs to go into effect and stop this set of actions which is destroying DYK. i may have made a booboo, but not sure. i removed the template from stem rust and botulism, as neither article contains any discussion of their use as bio weapons. it seems to me - not an expert on the subject or the particulars of templating - that the template should be applied if the article discusses what the template refers to. otherwise, it seems arbitrary/confusing, since it leads the reader to a whole realm of articles that may or may not be relevant to the article. anyway, if i could get a better understanding of the rationale that'd be great.
