Douglas Edward Biber (born August 5, 1952) is an American linguist. His focus mainly is on applied linguistics.
Biber received a BA in geophysics in 1974 from the Pennsylvania State University, and then an MA in linguistics from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1977, and also an MA in linguistics from the University of Southern California in 1982. Then, in 1984, he received his PhD in linguistics in from the same university. (NAU).[1] In 2000 Biber received an honorary doctorate from Uppsala University, Sweden. He is Regents' Professor of applied linguistics at Northern Arizona University, Applied Linguistics Program, English Department.[2]
