Stub redirects
The redirects were listed on VFU and got a majority for undeletion. Why have you deleted them again? --SPUI (talk - don't use sorted stub templates!) 05:41, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
- Hey, doesn't matter. You've made me see the error of my ways, anyway. I'm withdrawing from WikiProject Stub sorting. After all, the whole project's fucked. Within a few weeks, there'll be stub redirects of every imaginable shade around, and it'll no longer be possible for the project to know what it's doing. Give it a couple of months and there'll be no-one sorting them anymore. Hell, it might even be worth deleting all the subcategories we've got and just dumping everything back into Category:Stubs. There's no pojnt in keeping going with separate categories when we can't check whtether new templates or new redirects are correctly formatted. Stubs are already disappearing into redlinked categories because there are too many stub types for anyone to be able to successfully patrol them. No, my friend, the golden age of stub sorting is over, kaput. I admit defeat - I'm going back to actually writing articles. At least people appreciate articles being written - with stub sorting you seldom get anything other than insults. It's just not worth it. Grutness...wha? 09:47, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
I'm sorry; I had supposed that the magnitude of what was being proposed (changing the scope of SFD) had come to the attention of the regulars at the various stubs pages. In closing the DRV I did at least avoid actually pronouncing on the scope of SfD-vs-RfD, and left the redirects to be dealt with by someone else. As somone already pointed out, people are not normally notified of nominations on DRV, in much the same way as people are not of nominations to AfD. Granted, a watchlist lights up in the latter case, and this is perhaps something DRV should examine changing. -Splashtalk 16:48, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I know that it was below the 75% threshold but as I indicated in my (unusual) 'closure' note on DRV I was not satisfied of where to relist them, and so I left that to someone else; Cryptic took the same action later. (I'm not sure what you refer to as RFU; VfU has been replaced by DRV wholesale.) It does seem that the deletion review debate lacked some useful input from editors like you and that it may have been coloured as a result. We don't have (and deliberately did not institute) a review of reviews on DRV. This in itself shouldn't be a problem here since SfD is back to (re-)discussing them. From the look of things it's a hard case to persuade people of so far. I'm sorry about the proceedings of the DRV, but I don't know what could have been done differently in a satisfactory manner — apart from notifying WP:WSS, a step that just isn't normally taken on DRV (for no particular reason). -Splashtalk 00:08, 4 January 2006 (UTC)

- Not sure I will be back to it. We can't beat SPUI - not without resorting to his tactics. One rebel like him can easily take down a project of 100 workers on wikipedia - and if the decisions on redirects go his way then the project is pretty much doomed. Shame that it's been a lot of work for nothing, but that's often the way of things. In any case, it's a lot easier to do work here that's probably less useful in the long run but which doesn't get you repeatedly abused. In any case I've got a lot of non-wiki work to do in the next few months, what with an exhibition in March and a book which I've started work on - I have a feeling I'm not going to be spending as long online for a while anyway. we'll see how things go, though - I could be back at WSS. As for the Geo-stub counts, I've given copies of my spreadsheet files to BL Lacertae (who only lives a couple of miles from me - I went to unversity with her parents), so hopefully she'll keep counting them up every now and again until I come back. afl-bio-stub
Hi James. User:Rogerthat and the people at Wikipedia:WikiProject AFL have introduced {{afl-bio-stub}} and started replacing afl-stub with it in articles. This doesn't seem to have been done in line with WP:WSS, so I thought you might want to have a look at it and make any necessary explanations.
While I'm here, I'll just mention that it seems straightforward to me that the FOTW-pic iamges should be deleted according to Wikipedia policy, except that people are arguing that at least some of them are PD. - sorry, I don't know my geography very well. Where is mali, ect. If the country is not in it, or is a country I have never heard of I put it in the geo stub category. I do this rather than putting it in the stub category. Sorry for the extra work, but until I learn more geography, that is the best I can do. If you can help me on a better way to do this let me know. Remember I know little geography outside of North america and Europe. Agian sorry for the extra work.
P.S. please understand that I am sorting other stubs other than the geo category. Sorry for my mess. I'm not garrenteing that I will be able to stop. But mark my words I will give it my best effort and at the very minimum add a comment line explaining my difficulty, like this: geo-stub<(!)--sorry but this is my problem....on and on, what ever needs to be said-->Eagle (talk) (desk) 02:32, 24 January 2006 (UTC)
Your idea works except that I was working from a list of untagged stubs. I had and still have no choice on which articles need to tagged. I will do my best though and try to find the country. Template:occult-stub
Dear Grutness, can I please ask you the reason why you decided to change the image used at this template from a pentagram to a pentacle? To the best of my knowledge, the pentacle is a sacred symbol used by Neo-Pagan religions such as Wicca, whereas the pentagram is often related to Satanism and the occult. I humbly suggest you reconsider your decision, as it may be perceived offensive by many users, especially considering that this template is often used in articles related to Demonology and Black Magic which are completely unrelated to the beliefs of said groups and in fact feel insulted by the association. In fact, I'm not a Neo-Pagan, but I have a few friends who follow that path and I know how sensitive they are regarding the common confusion of their religion with the usual preconceptions. For that reason, it simply concerned me how some people could feel by seeing a pentacle being displayed, i.e., at an article about Demonology. Since you are by far more qualified than I am at this field, I'll leave the choice entirely up to you and other Neo-Pagan users. Adminship
You recently asked if I had considered standing for admin. I then declined the "invitation" because of a content/policy dispute I was involved in. Those issues are now more or less solved (one has ended in an agreement to disagree with a mutual ceasefire), and they made me aware of some wikipedia policies and guidelines that I wasn't aware of before. Have I missed someone, or am I really the first Dutch admin? I regularly come across Dutch wikipedians, so I can't imagine no other Dutchman being an admin. That's a very kind though - but you obviously don't follow my edits too closely - there would be a bloodbath of monumental proportions - and it would not be my blood. I'm far too outspoken and opinionated. I just never seem to know when to shut up especially if I think someone is being pushed around - I don't do featured articles any more, not since I reverted the "editor-in-cheif" and he took exception (my page still passed but under very unhappy circumstances! - Well I was happy others were not). Then there was the small matter of that editor's very nasty failed RFA which some people thought was my fault. Probably best if I stick to writing.
So thanks for the offer but I think not. On a more cheerful note your mate has just taken some great photos of Holy Trinity Cathedral in Auckland, intended for Benjamin Mountfort. I think I'll do a page on the building itself instead, I'm in the middle of an Oz architect at the moment, but he's in a sticky patch (metaphorically that is) so I think I'll have a few days in NZ to get away from him. Well that's just f...ing marvellous the page improves by the moment. I hadn't been there for a while the list of buildings seems to have grown - was that you or did I find them all. I'm playing around with an Australian architect at the moment but am losing enthusiasm, don't if it's just me or do Australian buildings not have the freedom and individuality of the New Zealand ones - interesting thought that, shame original research is banned - it would make a good page. Thanks very much for letting my know that the photos are there; they look great! It is interest to note that in the photo of the Presbyterian Church at Milton, the building to the right on the opposite side of the street is where the Grace Presbyterian congregation meet. Apparently the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. The extra history of the town is interesting, it is always good to find out why a place was settled.
- Hey there. The Milton article looks great. Can I make an observation (NOT a complaint) about the photo of the church? OK, I will anyway. The doors are closed. Yep, I know the doors were closed when the pic was taken, but that's not my point. It is that throughout Europe I photographed many churches and can't ever remember seeing one with the doors closed. It seems to be a thing about most NZ churches which always seem to have shut, and locked, doors. Wonder if that's a security thing, or old habits. I loved walking past churches in Europe and being attracted inside by the music coming out the doorways -- jazz even. Just an observation, now I'll get back to something useful. I see you reverted Mosgiel from suburb to town. There appears to be an anon user making quite a few such revisions from slightly different IPs each time. Similar changes have been made to Port Chalmers and Portobello (I think). I eagerly await the suggestion that Middlemarch is a suburb! They're also interested in disavowing any links between Queenstown and Southland (despite the Southland DHB providing medical services there). I reverted the intial change, but they've changed it back again. I left a message on one of the IP pages, but I suspect they're going to get a slightly different one each time, so it will be something to watch out for. Limegreen 21:16, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

I have tried making that warning message a bit more prominent. It kind of drowned in the midst of all the warnings the IP has been receiving, and admins on rapid RC-patrol almost have to shoot first and ask questions later in order to catch the vandalism. - Alas, for most of my personal stuff the rest of the world wouldn't bother mirroring. I keep everything important on three different hard disks (minimum) plus a CF card, and I write it to a new CD every six months or so as well. I did have a hard disk crash a few months ago (three days before I had intended to replace that particular computer) but there was nothing irreplaceable on that disk. - Thankfully I had a backup from six months ago of much of the most important part, and I'd only completed backing up all of my photos from last year the previous week. But there's still things like financial records, and all my art records (which is pretty devastating since I'm in the middle of preparation for an exhibition in eight weeks time). And, of course, I lost a lot of music, though that's not as vital. Grutness...wha?
It's a very long story that does not involve cats. :) It's all connected with the ten years of my life spent working on a post-grad project that sort of evaporated. It's one thing to have spent all the time and energy on a Royal Javanese Graveyard, but it does not pay the bills (at the moment). The first day of the javanese year is when it's best to stay home, if youre old and traditional in your beliefs. If you are young and able you go for an all night stint the night before at the graveyard, and so on. There should be some ancillary articles to Imogiri once my anarchical gut laughs on uncyclopedia annoy my children too much (because we're moving house, all the computers are in the same room at the moment) and I get back to collab'ing with Meursault.... Because we're moving, uncovering photos for west tassie, so it's all a bit chaotic.SatuSuro 10:12, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
You recently speedied Evil Dogfish Productions, which was listed on AfD. However, while the speedy was perfectly valid, you did not close the AfD vote. Please do this by adding {{subst:at|reason}} to the top and {{subst:ab}} to the bottom. (If it helps you to remember, they stand for AFD top and AFD bottom.)
