Hi! I'm working on a high resolution SVG image of India. I don't know how long it will take, but if we can get it up soon, we could have locator maps for each and every city that has a geographical coordinate listed. Since SVG images are XML based, all that is needed to be done is to run a script that adds a dot on a new layer according to the coordinates specified. Is it difficult to program such a script? Yes, the problem has been showing up at my end as well. Now, the only possible solution to this remains is to try out mIRC or xchat. I think they will work out with the proxy settings and the software that I have mentioned on my IndianIRC page. You must try out these softwares without installing the proxy connections first, there might not be any need for the proxy connection. Then again, I believe it probably would require the proxy. You can download mIRC from here, . Regards, --Andy123(talk) 12:15, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Happy Easter to all of you, and I hope that this version may fix your current problems and perhaps provide you with a few useful new tools. You can download version 1.1 at User:AmiDaniel/VandalProof. Let me warn you, however, to please be extremely careful when using the new Rollback All Contributions feature, as, aside from the excessive server lag it would cause if everyone began using it at once, it could seriously aggitate several editors to have their contributions reverted. If you would like to experiment with it, though, I'd be more than happy to use my many sockpuppets to create some "vandalism" for you to revert. If you have any problems downloading, installing, or otherwise, please tell me about them at User:AmiDaniel/VP/Bugs and I will do my best to help you. Thanks. Hi,
Saw you removed a few link spams from the external link section of the Andhra Pradesh article. Even I am against the links, but added as a temporary place for "Wowtelugu.com" link while it is being debated. I have started a discussion on the worthiness of the link in the discussion page of the article, and I strongly believe that it should be deleted. The trouble is that even after repeated deletions, the link keeps getting added to the page (that too in the lead section), making the risk of an edit war. If you can also give your views on it, the consensus will be easier to arrive at. Thanks, -Ambuj Saxena (talk) 08:18, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
Unfortunately I didn't get around to make any significant improvements in the map as I was involved with the improvement of Kolkata. I've uploaded a test file (there's no background as of now... creating the sea is a little tricky) Image:India-SVG-test-map.svg. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 18:48, 16 April 2006 (UTC)
i added wowtelugu.com and fullastrology.com bcz they are providing interest information including telugu cinema gossipos by wowtelugu.com and cultural based information which is most important for telugu people throughout world. Even the state Govt of Andhra Pradesh starts its day on ugadi with panchangam. similarly most of the information in the www.fullastrology.com is free of cost and useful to the people of world in general and telugu people of andhra pradesh in particular. the predictions given by sri nookala suryanarayana about hard ware importance in andhra pradesh and in India came true in last year telugu panchangam and it is proudly placed in the talk of today of the thatstelugu.com , a popular telugu portal. hence it is justified the link , i need ur feedback in the matter with regards v pavan kumar MS

Ref converter has been updated once again. This time I have created "WikiLinks", which automatically generates a fresh list of articles with old reference styles that need converting. Just run WikiLinks, open up a bunch of the resultant links it give in separate tabs, and go through each tab one-by-one and convert those references. --Cyde Weys 06:44, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Please use it for now, especially on pages that use ref num, and contact me with any bug reports. Hi, I've read the article about Bandar and also included reference to the centuries-old Church. You might see it under the head "Culture" - "Diocese of Krishna Godavari". I've also made an entry of the mysterious Church under Tourism.
I've got some good photos of Bandar and hope to scan my negatives and upload sometime later. Bandar happens to be the home of my maternal grandmother born into an orthodox Hindu family. Later under the influence of the Christian missionaries, became Christians.--Pradeep 19:56, 23 April 2006 (UTC)
Unreflective use of refconverter is causing many problems, and in many cases actively harming Wikipedia. The tool is nice to have—in fact, it's the impetus for me creating my own "Citation Tool" (still alpha). But it is nice to have to aid editors who are actually involved in editing a specific article, and who have reached consensus about making a given type of change to an existing article. Unfortunately, the semi-bot is largely being used to make "drive by 'improvements'" to articles where editors either have not considered the citation style, or where they have actively decided on something different from what the tool produces. This is extremely disrespectful to other Wikipedia editors, and a gross violation of process.
I have not looked at your specific changes made using the semi-bot, but I strongly recommend that you follow a guideline along the lines of: "Use this tool only after consensus for a change has been reached on the talk page of the article to which it is applied!"
You may also want to take a look at User:Evilphoenix/ref conversion. This is a sketch of an RfC that may be filed to try to resolve this problem (I see no reason you might not opine there, even while it lives in userspace). Ideally, Cyde will back off his insistence on changing all articles, even where against editor consensus. But unfortunately, his attitude has only become more belligerent when I have repeated requests in this regard. I think a positive involvment of well-meaning users of the semi-bot might help matters resolve amicably. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 02:34, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

I missed wikipedia and wikipedians for three long weeks, and I feel really sad… for first few days, I even dreamt of wikipedia! I think that in next few days, my wiki-life shall become normal. I left my comments on the discussion page before its latest move. As I mentioned, I prefer to use standard English for Wikipedia articles, and "X District" is standard English capitalization for a political division; voting on a Wikipedia page is unlikely to change that. The arguments insisting on non-standard capitalization seemed pretty thin to me, so I checked a number of official district web sites to see what they did, and found that they used a variety of conventions (X District, X district, District X, etc). While I think that standard English should prevail in the absence of a compelling reason to abandon it, I think there is little harm in folks using a slightly different convention, so long we create redirects for all the likely iterations of spelling and capitalization (i.e. Balasore District, Balasore district, Baleswar District, Baleswar district, Baleshwar District, etc.). I'm thinking it would look like the templates that music albums and video games use. That way, if some of those areas aren't filled in, they won't show up on the article.

Regarding India Selected Article, there are many articles in the list that are not related to India, rather universal. Also, there are some articles that, though related to India, do not meet the critera for India SA. I have nominated 2 such articles as SA removal candidates. IMO, their selection as SA in the first place seems to be biased in the sense that the topic, rather than the SA criteria, were given more importance. Please see and comment. This SA list needs urgent attention. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 14:07, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi! The template for Portal:India/Selected article removal candidates was not made, and I tried to make it. However, the result Template:Pisarc is not ok. It is not functioning perfectly as can be seen in the talk pages where this has been put, for example, Talk:Raja Ravi Varma and Talk:Cheese. See that the template shows the name of the article once again at the end! I have already contacted Nichalp (talk · contribs) in this regard. You can also help to resolve this technical matter.
Many articles in Portal:India/Selected articles deserve to be delisted as they are either not india related or do not meet the criteria. I cannot but say that it seems from the list as if many articles were chosen by the whims of the editor Shyam Bihari (talk · contribs) rather than going through the prescribed procedure. Please see. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 10:49, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
Hello Ganesh, as a fellow member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian Cinema, could you look at Ajith, Rajinikanth and Vijay (actor), because User:Anwar saadat has complained that Nobleeagle, Zora, Pa7 and myself, who have all complained that the article was hagiographic and chronically used POV terms such as "mega-blockbuster", "mega-star", using magazine reviews as a objective fact, are unfit to edit this article on the grounds that we are ignorant of Kollywood (I'm presuming that is because none of us are Tamil, so that's why I came here). He also reverted User:David Crawshaw for removing "!" marks littered throughout the page, claiming "vandalism" and has threatened to report Zora and myself for "trolling" and "vandalism". Although none of us are familiar with Tamil cinema, we have been cutting parts out because of blatant POV, but he thinks that we aren't qualified, so I was hoping a person of Tamil background may be able to convince him. Hi Ganesh, I've managed to figure out some values which might help you autoplace the values for the x and y coordinates. For simplicity's sake I've not included Andaman and Nicobar Islands and considered Pak-administered Kashmir. Here's the data:
I've produced a cropped map of the Indian mainland (1445x1610) (See Image:India-coor-locator.png which determines the actual pixel area of mainland India for your reference.
Subtracting the latitudes and longitudes to get the net area of India:
Co-relating the two:
Since the map of India does not start exactly at the left and bottom margin, you would need to add an offset value to the final tally. I've calculated these values:
I hope you find this information sufficient. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:35, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Oops, sorry for the confusion caused. "About time" refers to the fact that I had already announced my inactivity/wikibreak on my user/talk pages almost a month back but waited for a month to see if I'll be still active. It doesn't appear that I'll find enough time before 2007, so my editcount(iti)s may be limited to 100-200 per month. Hence, I felt it was "about time" to move myself to inactive members. I'd be inactive but would still be around - I have several things to do, one of the most important being nominating you for the RfA sometime in June. --Gurubrahma 17:48, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

After a lenghty, but much-needed Wikibreak, I'm happy to announce that version 1.2 of VandalProof is now available for download! Beyond fixing some of the most obnoxious bugs, like the persistent crash on start-up that many have experienced, version 1.2 also offers a wide variety of new features, including a stub-sorter, a global user whitelist and blacklist, navigational controls, and greater customization. You can find a full list of the new features here. While I believe this release to be a significant improvement over the last, it's nonetheless nowhere near the end of the line for VandalProof. Thanks to Rob Church, I now have an account on test.wikipedia.org with SysOp rights and have already been hard at work incorporating administrative tools into VandalProof, which I plan to make available in the near future. An example of one such SysOp tool that I'm working on incorporating is my simple history merge tool, which simplifies the process of performing history merges from one article into another. Anyway, if you haven't already, I'd encourage you to download and install version 1.2 and take it out for a test-drive. As always, your suggestions for improvement are always appreciated, and I hope that you will find this new version useful. Happy editing! --AmiDaniel (talk) 02:24, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
