Assassination of Alexander II of Russia happened at afternoon of March 13 (O.S. 1) 1881 on the waterfront of Catherine Canal in Saint Petersburg, Russian Empire. Alexander II was en route to Winter Palace when Nikolai Rysakov threw bomb to the carriage and destroyed it, and suicide bombing of Ignacy Hryniewiecki fatally wounded Aleexander II. Totally 4 people were killed. Members of Narodnaya Volya organisation which organised an assassination hoped the revolution to follow the murder[1].
