I've been editing Wikipedia on an on-and-off basis for many years. I prefer to edit anonymously, but it's become so hard to get anything done from an IP that I figure I might as well have an account.
As for understanding Wikipedia, this piece by Aaron Swartz is worth reading, as is this essay by Jo Freeman. Here is a sample of my work on Wiki. :-)
