His works are in public and private collections of such celebrities as Valerie Harper, Herbie Hancock, Carl Weathers and Lynn Stalmaster. Among Campanile's European collectors are Giulio Andreotti, a former Prime Minister of Italy[7].
Campanile was born April, 1948 in Rome, Italy. As a self-taught painter, he began working with watercolors and oils at a young age and was influenced by the works of Caravaggio, Magritte, Delvaux and Tanguy, as well as the numerous works of other masters available to him as a child in Rome. He was encouraged to continue developing his work by notables such as Giorgio de Chirico, Salvador Dali and Madame Lucille Duillars and was winning awards and being featured in shows by the age of 19.[5]
Campanile first came to the United States in 1973, where his work was so well received that he relocated to California. There he became a well-known Hollywood artist, creating widely recognized album covers, artistry for Hanna-Barbera Productions, and the famous 75th Anniversary Paramount logo, as well as showing in galleries around the world. In 2005, firmly established as one of the major artists of his generation, Campanile settled in Maui, Hawaii. Today he divides his time between California, Hawaii and Italy[8].
Campanile's work is noted for its intense realism and the sincerity of his surrealistic exploration. His works have been shown in both solo and group exhibitions around the world, most recently as one of the 85 artists chosen for the multi-media art exhibition entitled, The Missing Peace: Artists Consider the Dalai Lama.
Campanile is characterized by working in a wide range of mediums and modalities. Terms used to define Campanile’s work have included: classicism, realism, neo-realism, real-surrealism and hyper-realism. These stylistic variations reflect the diverse art forms he pursues, including realistic and surrealistic still lifes, as well as figuratives, abstracts and impressionistic landscapes[8]. He works in oil, acrylics and sculptures in bronze and cast paper bas-relief. Through an extraordinary command of detail and sensitivity to symbolism, he has been commended as the master of capturing the essence of the single moment. [1]
Aside from oil and acrylic artistry and sculptures, Campanile has worked in the mediums of background artistry for animated T.V. series, album covers, book covers, film posters, logo designs and the creation of short films as well. The following represents a sampling of these works.
