Talk:Liberland/Temp

Liberland, also known as the Free Republic of Liberland, is a micronation promoted by Czech right-libertarian politician and activist Vít Jedlička, who began claiming in 2015 that an uninhabited stretch of floodplain on the Croatian bank of the Danube (known as Gornja Siga), is the territory of a new independent country. Not recognized by any country, Liberland has since become one of the best known examples of a micronation. Jedlička was inspired by classical liberal thinkers such as Ludwig von Mises and Ayn Rand, and he envisioned a political system characterised by laissez-faire capitalism, minimal government, no taxation, and an economy based on cryptocurrency.
Notable supporters of the project include Ron Paul, Gary Johnson, Glenn Beck and Roger Ver.
The stretch of floodplain the project claims is about 6.5 to 7.7 square kilometres (about 2.5 to 3 square miles) in size, flooded in winter and used as a public beach by local Croatian residents in summertime. The area has been controlled by Croatia since Croatia's original establishment as a republic in 1945 but belongs to a group of riverbank pockets that Croatia hopes to trade control of to Serbia in exchange for control of a number of larger pockets on the Serbian bank. Liberland asserts that Croatia's statements regarding the possible trade are tantamount to a quitclaim and have rendered the pocket ownerless, a theory dismissed as unfounded by the local and international legal community.
The European Commission includes Liberland passports, the group's main source of income, on its list of harmless fantasy passports.
