The picture https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Operation_of_a_CFD.png seems to show wrong content. A delayed signal should come later, not earlier than the original signal. So the second blue gaussian curve should be right of the dashed line, not left of it.
So, if I got it right, the delay should be in the upper path (of the original signal).
