See discussion at Talk:Health informatics#Merge public health informatics here? — Donama 05:03, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Given the major change to the page which I discuss below, I think the article stands on its own now, and should not be merged with Health Informatics. Besides, the last expression of interest in merging is 16 months old. — Pojoman 02:17, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
No consensus to merge. Removing tag. --KarlB (talk) 21:37, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
There were two paragraphs added recently which, although interesting, were actually off-topic. They dealt with aspects of health care data available to the public on the internet. Public health informatics is something quite different. Other than those two paragraphs, there were only one or two sentences in the article, something which I and I am sure other professional public health informaticists feel is quite insufficient.
My initial attempt is pretty much off the top of my head, reflecting my own experience in public health informatics at a state public health department. It is just a beginning. But I feel it improves the article 1000%. Please help expand it! — Pojoman 02:17, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Two students in the Public Health Informatics class at Uniformed Services University in Bethesda MD are undertaking to rework this page as a class assignment. We are open to suggestions from anyone. However, our mindset is to be inclusive rather than exclusive when defining what the field includes. Here is a copy of the current page which we will use as a starting point.
Apparently you had created a Wikipedia page for your new version, but someone deleted it. I would be very glad to see it and contribute, if it is still an active project.
On the subject of inclusive vs. exclusive: a definition of anything can obviously be harmed by veering too much in one direction or another. I wrote my version based on what I know of as Public Health Informatics in the work of United States organizations: State Departments of Health (primarily New York State, where I work), the CDC, County Health Departments, and academic PHI programs in Schools of Public Health. I totally ignore international institutions. I don't know much about the few non-profit organizations devoted to PHI. If there are any other major pockets of Public Health Informatics practice that I haven't mentioned, I am eager to learn about them. — Pojoman 03:22, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
