I found a website about a new type of Grand Theft Auto game for NES. This one is called Grand Theftendo. Is it Wikipedically appropriate to make an article like this? If it is, a Wikipedian can type it. It is one of the coolest concepts for adopting GTA to an 8-bit universe. --SuperDude 01:46, 20 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Most of the GTA game articles are in the category third-person shooter. I think this is inaccurate, because although the games do use third-person perspective, the focus is not entirely on gun-based combat (in contrast to a true third-person shooter like Max Payne). The GTA games combine shooting, driving, questing (missions), and exploration. I'd consider them to be in the action genre, maybe even action-adventure. --Poiuyt Man (talk) 22:54, 4 May 2005 (UTC)
The number of links to external fansites is becoming way too large, and before long we'll have each site fighting to get its listing here. I propose that we remove all but the official links to Rockstar / GTA from the list, just to be fair. Wikipedia is not a link dump, so if nobody objects, I'll remove it soonish. Am I the only one who is a apalled by the blatently homsexual imagery hidden in games like Grand theft Auot?! coupled with out right incourragement of "alternative lifestyles", and subiminal imagery designed to mae teenagers think shooting cops is cool, and ghetto losers are good, just more liberals trying to impose their "toleracne" on othr peoples children--152.163.101.10 15:43, 27 July 2005 (UTC)
I suggest that you stop worrying about "liberals" trying to undermine the morals of children, for whom this series is clearly not designed - that's why virtually every release has a "M" rating - thus demonstrating that it's not suited for kids. And adults should clearly distinguish between a virtual scenario and the real world and accordingly act in different moral systems. I also suggest that - instead of posting such rubbish - you 1) get rid of your homophobia (I'm referring to your statement about "homosexual imagery") and 2) improve your English, especially if you are a native speaker of the language. Then you certainly should be able - after some training, of course - to surpass a foreigner like me. --Vargher 11 Jan 2006, 22:20 (GMT)
What would people say to removing the current previous/next game box on each game page, and replacing it with a series box, such as the one for Half Life? Orange Goblin 11:03, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
How in the world could you think it was 1996? It's set in the present day, so it's set in 2001 since the game came out in 2001. If you still don't believe it after looking at the liberty tree or reading articles about developers saying that it takes place in 2001 then just simply listen to the radio; at one point there's a commercial in which a lady advertises something "for all your 21st century technological needs". Anyways, someone had changed Grand Theft Auto Advance to 2001 which is incorrect - it was stated by the developers before the game came out that it takes place a year before Grand Theft Auto III - the year 2000. I fixed it. -zeppelincheetah
Hey, I thought it was set in 1993, just because I figured that story would happen just as soon as catalina and the mute made it to Liberty City. PJ

While I have no idea who I'd use as refferences, every gamer knows that GTA is one of the most argued about games of all time.
Families sue Rockstar for making their kids go out and shoot cars with shotguns, while others say the perents showed neglect. Political people blame GTA for the perversion of our country, but others say they only say that to win the next election. A poster above claims GTA promotes homosexuality, while I think Rockstar was very homophobic in their gay jokes. (Altough I do not think homosexuality should be in the artical because it is not our place to say whether it is right or wrong.) So I was thinking of these issues:
During the 3rd Quarter conference, Take-Two said that another GTA is coming out next "fiscal" year. This means it will come out before the end of October of next year. And seeing as Grand Theft Auto games always come out in October (including Liberty City Stories), it is extremely likely that a next-gen version of GTA will come out in October 2006. We will probably know the name of it by April or May, and from E3 on we will hear trickled information on it until its release. Also they said there would be two, meaning there will probably be a sequel to Liberty City Stories on PSP. This sequel could quite possibly follow suit and be set in Vice City, but with a new main character and storyline, etc. Here's what was said about the Take-Two conference
Take-Two's next fiscal year will see two "extensions of the Grand Theft Auto franchise" on unidentified platforms, according to its earnings report. But when asked by analysts if this meant a new console GTA was coming next year, Chief Financial Officer Karl Winters demurred, saying only "We haven't announced that yet...[we have] no announcement beyond PSP Grand Theft Auto."
Grand Theft Auto Series Arguments
The Grand Theft Auto games have been the most controversial entertainment pieces in the world. Its utter realism of criminal gangs and sexual practice make it one heck of a game, in both good and bad ways. The bad is the following. These contents have peaked the attention of worldwide political officials, as well as various civilians. According to Wikipedia's info,
this game was banned from sale in Australia. No sale is permitted, of this game, in the Australian country. Various lawsuits, civilian and political protests have been made to support the possible termination of these games. I remember that a protest was made in the county of Miami-Dade aginst this game. Doing my homework, I saw it on Telemundo (Miami-Dade spanish channel)and was utterly surprised by the comments on the TV. Nonetheless, I must congratulate Rockstar (and any other companies that supported this series' creation) on a few factors as well. Personally, I have never played the actual game. Sure, perhaps at a friend's house, but, in other words, I do not own a copy for myself. Nonetheless, I have investigated several sites out of pure curiosity to see what Grand Theft Auto was actually about. A long time ago, I downloaded various demos of GTA 1, GTA 2, and the London Expansion Packs. Later on, I saw the newer versions of the series, such as GTA 3, Grand Theft Auto:Vice City, Grand Theft Auto:San Andreas, etc. I studied the different eras of the trilogy, th saga, otherwise called. I observed that it began so innocently, with acts such as simply robbing cars, shooting certain people, driving against the clock to complete missions, etc. I thought of it as a fun arcade game, who's main idea was that of robbing cars and quick driving. But now, the stakes and contents are more serious. Sexual content, enhanced offensive language, etc. Before, I used to think how mature and inappropiate content it had. It was as if it wasn't a game anymore, but a serious thing. But now, I find myself interested in the utter realism of criminal activities and, mainly, the provoking storylines. Though a bit inappropiate for an entertainment device, they are very eloquent and they evoke a strong, dramatic, and somehow good feeling. As a young author, I insist that all critics should approve of this. The storylines are so real and exceptionally made! A great, yet very contorversial trilogy, equally sharing the balance of inappropiate material (which I must tell you, of this, I strongly disapprove, I strictly believe this, for a GAME, should not exist. Now for a story...)and such provoking storylines, of which I immediately support and celebrate.
Referring to a previously unexplained change indicating that Grand Theft Auto Advance took place in 2000...Given that 8-Ball was arrested on late-2001, on the month of October (and at the time when GTA Advance was about to end), there should be ore than enough time for the entire game's storyline to begin and end within these 10 months of 2001. If anyone has any evidence to prove otherwise, feel free to mention it here. ╫ 25 ring-a-ding 08:29, 14 September 2005 (UTC) ╫
should london and salford really be included in the GTA cities section? they are real cities and not part of the gta "fictional earth". also, do any sources state that gta2 takes place in "anywhere city"? --TBH 15:42, 15 October 2005 (UTC)
So my comments were removed from the main article due to extreme sarcasm (I would have removed them too), but here now (soon to be buried in the discussion page) is my own historical take on video game violence:
It is widely accepted that Adolf Hitler was playing GTA III the day before he decided to invade Poland in 1939. It is also believed that John Wilkes Booth in the weeks prior to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln practiced by going on "rampages" in the fictional GTA world. These two examples support the theory that violence did not exist until video games were invented by Ghengis Khan in 1206, just prior to his military conquests which slaughtered entire populations of Eurasia.
Of course that theory would mean that the Roman Legions were a peaceful bunch... :-) (unsigned comment by Usadefcon1 (talk • contribs) on 2005-11-21 01:54:07)
Refering to recent changes on Grand Theft Auto (game) and Grand Theft Auto (series) by 4.226.78.13; could someone verify the actual release date of the original GTA?
So far, several game review sites, including GameSpot and IGN, mention the PC version of the game being released in 1998, but other sites, including Rockstar Classic and MobyGames, mention the PC version being released in 1997. ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 16:25, 4 March 2006 (UTC) ╫
"Carcer City - Most likely Newark, New Jersey or Detroit. Said to be neighboring Liberty City (Manhunt takes place in Carcer City; mentioned in Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories)"
Said by who? There is absolutely no evidence that there is a Carcer City in the GTA world. There are references to it by Rockstar as an Easter Egg because Rockstar make Manhunt too. It is no different to the Lemmings Easter Egg in GTA: San Andreas (does that mean that there is a Lemmings city in the GTA world?). Carcer City does not neighbour Liberty City, otherwise the street signs in GTA: Liberty City Stories would have a sign to "Carcer City", not "Upstate".
I suggest that this bit be removed from the article because it is not sourced as to where this idea came from and is speculative in nature. --The Land of Smeg 00:43, 6 April 2006 (UTC)

I was wondering if a timeline of events from the grand theft auto series could be added to this page or featured as a new site altogether. Do you think this would be a good idea?
GTA3 GTA:SA and GTA:VC are all marked with the controversy or criticism heading if not both. This is by FAR the most controversial game series in recent times. As such something on this page needs to talk about it. There's numerous controversies or criticism to talk about. Such as the Jack Thompson's opinions and lawsuits, Senate hearings on Hot coffee, and a couple of the murders attributed to this game (the triple cop homicide in particular).
Perhaps it'd be best to compile all the games' controversy and criticism into one page and have each page link to it, as often the target of a lawsuit is Take Two and the Specific target is usually "the grand theft auto series". And with the exception of the Hot coffee issue they could easily have targeted any game since the GTA3 for any of the complaints.
Of course the criticism should also mention the fact that almost all criticism of the game has actually helped it. In addition since GTA3, many industry insiders have been pretty outspoken about this series being a moral cesspool, harming the industry rather then promoting it. --Kinglink 19:50, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
I belive there should be a separate article on the inter-weaving plotlines of the games in the GTA series. 70.106.36.130 19:35, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

I've taken the liberty of replacing all fan sites with one DMOZ directory. Wikipedia:External links#Occasionally acceptable links specifies fanlisting is not appropriate or encyclopedic in Wikipedia; the alternatives consist of either placing one major fan site or placing a web directory in "extreme cases". Since the notability of fan sites for the whole of the GTA series is unclear, a web directory seems more reasonable. ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 15:42, 23 June 2006 (UTC) ╫
Because of its huge popularity, the Grand Theft Auto series of the GTA III era can be considered the PlayStation 2's equivalent of Nintendo's Mario franchise, despite being a third-party game. GTA is very heavily associated with the PS2, but the games do appear on other platforms, and I don't think anyone considers CJ, Tommy Vercetti, or "Claude" as the PlayStation mascot. IMO Comparing the relationship between GTA and PS2 to the one between Nintendo and Mario is misleading, and quite exaggerated. Anyone object to removing this line? --ThisIsMyUsername 16:41, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Does someone know the webpage www.quotesofgta.tk? I read it in many FAQs on gamefaqs.com but the page seems not to exist. Only an advertisment and such a thing. Does someone know something about this page?
I am thinking about listing this in trivia: f-word is never heard in GTA, at least not in GTA3 and VC which I have played. I mean, amid the bloodshed, obscenity and swear language like "asshole, SoB, poontang" you don't hear "fuck", though actors like Tom Sizemore, Ray Liotta and Gary Busey have the word in their vocabulary. Why is a line drawn here - does it have to do with PG ratings? Medico80 10:50, 6 August 2006 (UTC)
that when you search Wikipedia for "Grand Theft Auto", you get redirected to a disambiguation page for the acronym "GTA". I can understand this if it was actually searching for "GTA", but I think there should be a page at "Grand Theft Auto". I didn't go ahead and do it myself, because I don't know which one should go there. There's this one and a movie for starters, but the actual crime where all this takes its name from is listed under "Motor Vehicle Theft". Master Deusoma 22:46, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
My suggestion of the day is that you delete the "secondary" list of guest voices that is in the intro of the article. It's massive and unnecessary. There has to be a better place for it. Either a subsection, or elminate it - I'm sure people can check the games themselves to see guest stars in each game. It's really cumbersome in the intro to this article, in any event. I'd just like to add something (better yet confirm for now an addition) in the References in Popular Culture section. I remember in the movie-version of Resident Evil, particularly the first one, one of the characters wielding two gold-plated guns had a vehicle. Following the outbreak of zombies, there was a scene where he was driving his vehicle smashing into one of the zombies on a street. After doing so, he is heard screaming "GTA, mutha****a!". Though he only DID say "GTA", he might as well be referring to Grand Theft Auto due to the prominent hit-and-run elements in the game. Would anyone volunteer to look this up? 210.213.198.55 10:55, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
The "10 points" mention is pretty stupid though. The points game has been around a lot longer than GTA. Pheonix 19:36, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
I just recently purchased Rockstar's latest game, Bully, and it plays just like the GTA games. Same sense of humor, same mission based/sandbox game play. In many ways, it feels like a GTA game, except that you can't kill people or steal cars. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that Bully is a GTA spin-off, but does anyone know for sure?
It's funny, but I can just imagine Tommy Vercetti or Salvatore Leone attending Bullworth Academy in their youth, lol. 129.115.38.27 18:38, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
