The school was built in 1973 and refurbished in 1995/6. An extensive refurbishment of the school was completed in September 2009.
In 2023 urgent repairs began at the school after RAAC was found in parts of the building. The repairs are expected to cost £35 million and temporary class rooms have been set up on campus.
