Obrataň lies approximately 21 kilometres (13 mi) west of Pelhřimov, 48 km (30 mi) west of Jihlava, and 83 km (52 mi) south-east of Prague.
The villages and hamlets of Bezděčín, Hrobská Zahrádka, Moudrov, Šimpach, Sudkův Důl, Údolí and Vintířov are administrative parts of Obrataň.
Obrataň is connected with Jindřichův Hradec by a narrow-gauge railway. It is operated by Jindřichohradecké místní dráhy company. It serves mostly as a tourist attraction.
