Metre and 3 ft (914 mm) gauge lines are found in South America. Some of the 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) gauge lines cross international borders, though not as efficiently as they might.

Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil and Chile have 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) gauge lines. Colombia and Peru have 3 ft (914 mm) gauge lines.
