Mesquite was formed prior to the 2010 U.S. Census along with Old Escobares CDP from the part of the Escobares CDP that was not incorporated into the city of Escobares.^[15]

Education

The CDP is within the Roma Independent School District.^[18] The zoned elementary school for the 2010 Census community is R. T. Barrera Elementary School.^[19] Roma High School is the district's sole comprehensive high school.
