Lisbon–Macau Raid
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Lisbon–Macau Raid was an 1924 air expedition by two Portuguese pilots, Sarmento de Beires and António Jacinto da Silva de Brito Pais [pt]. It was Beires' first major international flight, and it established him as a national hero in Portugal.[1] It was intended to be a first step towards a future around-the-world flight, and a reminder of the great age of Portuguese maritime exploration.[2] The successful journey covered 16,760 kilometers (10,414 miles) in 117 hours, 41 minutes of flight time.[2]
